The Personal Trainer Marketing Tactic THEY Don't Want You To Know
I'm up in Seattle, Washington kicking back… and getting ready for Saturday's Renegade Fitness Marketing workshop. It's going to R-O-C-K!
Since I'm busy kicking backing, err… I mean prepping for the Renegade workshop I decided to have a guest blog post for you today.
And I think you're really going to dig it…
Last week I spent a couple hours at Steve Hochman's boot camp in Irvine. I wanted to see firsthand how he was able to open up three boot camps within a couple of months.
What I stumbled upon was something AMAZING! It was like when Edison discovered electricity.
Steve's most potent personal trainer marketing system is probably too potent for some trainers. But I've asked him to share it here with you anyway….
There's a little secret that the marketing gurus don't want you to know about - And I'm gonna spill the beans. You see, the answer to maximum PT and boot camp profits has been right inside of you all along…
What's more, is that it has absolutely NOTHING to do with websites, mailers, craigslist, pay-per-click ads or post cards… And get this, it's FREE!
However, if you do not master this one simple (but powerful) technique, your fitness biz may seem like trying to fill up bucket
with holes in it.
But let me be ABSOLUTLY CLEAR.
You CAN have a six-figure fitness biz in 6 months or less, with out spending a DAMN DIME on marketing.
And the way to do it is with your ENERGY!
Just look at any famous fitness celebrity with a massive following… Jillian Michaels, Billy Blanks (Even freaking Richard Simmons)… They all bring the energy - And best of all it doesn't cost a Damn dime.
Energy and enthusiasm are contagious… It creates buzz big time. It attracts clients to you like a magnet. It's how you quickly pull away from your competition.
Here are six simple tips to RAISING your energy BIG TIME!
1. Never wake up to train clients… Get up because you have a big goal to accomplish and training your client is the next step to getting there. One way is to imagine where you want your business and life to be in 5 years. If your not sure, then imagine how you want to feel.
Now, create a plan to accomplish your goal. The next time your alarm goes off in the morning, DON'T get up to train a client, get up to take one step closer to achieving your dream… Your clients will feel the difference in your energy and they'll LOVE it!
2. Pretend you're a guest trainer on the biggest loser. The cameras are rolling and America's watching.
Now be honest, would you FRIGGIN BRING IT, or just sit there like a bump on a log holding a clipboard and counting reps? So why not pretend you are on a hit TV show EVERY time you train your clients - You just might end up on one…
3. The #1 most desired emotion is the feeling of importance. So when your clients walk in the door, (with HUGE amounts of energy) tell them that you're so excited to see them. You've been looking forward to this all day. Thank them for coming in. Tell them how much this workout is gonna ROCK! (You may be the only person in their life that makes them feel important).
4. The #2 most desired emotion is the feeling of appreciation. After the workout profusely thank you clients for coming in. Look them in the eye and say "Thank you so much for your hard work and great energy today!" Tell them you can't wait to see them next time. Point at them and say, "THANK YOU!" (They may never feel as appreciated as they do when they're with you).
5. Commit to being the hardest worker. Let me explain that one. You may not have the most experience, or know a darn thing about marketing, but you can always be the hardest worker. Make a vow right now to bring more energy, passion, enthusiasm, and intensity than any other fitness professional on the planet.
I GUARANTEE you this: If your energy is consistently OFF THE HOOK, you will NEVER have to worry about getting clients again… Period.
6. Go A.P.E. SHIT! (Appreciation, Passion, Enthusiasm). Never lose your appreciation for your clients choosing YOU to be their trainer. There are literally thousands of others, but they chose you. Stay passionate about fitness by having goals so you can operate with a higher purpose. Turbo charge your enthusiasm - It's contagious, and will cause TONS of clients to blow up your phone literally BEGGING to get what you've got.
Steve's brand of personal trainer marketing is simple and straight forward; "focus on getting clients using only low cost and no cost marketing tactics."

Steve - This post really brings it home. I've noticed that I when I project more energy in my camps people have a great time. When people have a great time they will tell someone about that.
Thanks for this post man…and I love your energy!

Very cool.
Enthusiasm and passion are the key.
How can you expect your clients to be excited if you're not on fire with enthusiasm?
Thanks for the constant reminder to excel and succeed.

Steve
btw - Keep this on the DL but Bedros and I are gonna release a very limited amount of "PROJECT X" at the Summit in May.
Great article and it is so true.
Thanks for all you do for fitness professionals everywhere.
Energy and passion should be a given!
Great Post!
It's true about having the energy level through the roof. I hate when I see so many instructors who's are like a stick in the mud.
When I teach and train I picture like I'm a performer who people look forward to seeing my "show" every week. Hell I have clients that leave work early just for my classes, which really helps me to bring it everyday not only energy wise but also when I design the classes.
Even if I'm tired as hell I take a 5 hour energy and get my ass up to kick their asses and they love it. If you can't bring it then you shouldn't be in this industry.
Well put Bryan!
Steve - can't belive you're talking about "Project X". We'll I guess sooner or later we gotta let the cat out of the bag.
If you're going to be at Summit 09 you'll get to be the first to experiance it.

Hey Bedros… sorry dude, I swear it wasn't me… Leonard Wankerski set me up… He was the one who leaked out about PROJECT-X
But now that it's "out"
I can't wait to BLOW peoples minds with it at fitness Summit 09!
Right on point as usual, Bedros - And Steve's blog looks like it's gonna be crazy!

Energy is attractive, It makes people look up and take notice. If you are down then the only people who want to talk to you are the negative ones.
I recently felt this in a hard way!!! realised my problem. I was listening to to many negative people using words like economy crisis???? aint no crisis in my life matey!
Sometimes my clients say to me wow why are you so happy?? when they feel down. When we have finished they are smiling garanteed. This is a major area of a successful PERSONAL trainer….people skills and character
This is the first time I've commented on any of your articles and I've really been enjoying and learning from all of them. This article really sums it up here. Awesome tips to reinforce what good trainers are already doing. Our fitness director just sent out a request to all of us asking about the top three ways we get new clients. My response was #1 referrals, and #2 members and guests watching me train my clients. To me, these two methods are huge compliments in themselves. Praising a client for "Bringing it" after their training session is so rewarding for me and to them and there's a ton of positive energy bouncing around it's contageous!
