How to Start a Personal Training Business

Sure you need solid marketing, a niche market, sales skills, and top notch training skills to start a personal training business.

But above all, you’ll need to have these six traits of highly successful fitness business entrepreneurs…

See, I get a unique perspective into the fitness industry that most others don’t.

Through my 500 plus coaching and consulting clients and thousands of customers over the years I’ve gotten a unique perspective into the minds, personalities, and behaviors of the most successful entrepreneurs in our industry.start a personal training business

Likewise, I’ve also gotten a good perspective on who’s not cut out to be an entrepreneur and the type of person who should not be starting a personal training business.

So if the list of 6 successful entrepreneurial traits describes you, congrats!

And if this list doesn’t describe you, then I’ll tell you what your two options are down below… so keep reading 😉

Trait #1: Winning Attitude.
This is probably the most common trait I see.

Knowing that whatever the challenge, whatever the odds, and no matter how high the “suck factor” is in what you’re about to embark on, that you will not quit, and in fact, you will emerge victorious!

Trait #2: Problem Solver.
There are two types of people in this world… problem solvers, and those who avoid problems.

The most successful entrepreneurs are problem solvers…

…they’re always looking to improve things, simplify things, and make a good thing better. They identify the problems that a niche market is experiencing and create a better solution.

Trait #3: Opportunistic.
Now, some might think that being opportunistic is bad or evil, and if you’re one of those people who think that then you’re wrong. Look, anyone interested in starting a personal training business would be crazy not to look for the opportunities in their community where they can draw business from.start a fitness business

The best fitness business entrepreneurs are wired to be opportunistic… to see opportunity where others don’t. To take advantage of an opportunity where the value that they provide can be exchanged for currency.

That leads me to my next point…

Trait #4: Value Adder.
This is by far one of my most favorite traits of all because I believe that your level of success in life is in directly proportionate to the amount of value that you add to the world.

This trait alone weeds outs the truly successful entrepreneurs from the want-a-preneurs who think they can shortcut the universe and con people out of their money.

It’s no surprise that some of the most successful entrepreneurs in the world also happen to be the most generous.

Trait #5: Thrive on Uncertainty.
If you want security, stability, and a predictable income from day one then you’re not cut out to be an entrepreneur.

Entrepreneurs thrive in uncertainty. They’re risk takers, thinkers, and pioneers which by nature puts them in a position of uncertainty from the very start.

Real entrepreneurs ONLY get paid for done and when the sale is made.

Trait #6. They’re Persuasive.
They can sell, they can rally the troops, and get others behind their ideas, products, and services.

It’s that simple… If you really want to know how to start a personal training business then this is something you just can’t ignore.

Interestingly, it’s the culmination of these six entrepreneurial traits that make some a great leader.

And if there was a 7th trait, it would be that – they’re natural leaders.

Like I said in the beginning, if you found that I was describing you above then give yourself a pat on the back.

And if you don’t think that you’re a natural entrepreneur, then you have two options…start a personal training business

1. Find a job, ideally one that you like, and hope that it lasts.

2. You can learn to become a great fitness business entrepreneur. Countless others have.

Work on yourself.

Get out of your comfort zone.

Invest in a mentor.

Ask for help.

Go where the industry’s best entrepreneurs go and do what they do.

In other words… emulate success.
