One Saturday morning, a couple years ago, I got dressed to leave for work. I was the sole trainer/owner of a 500 sq ft fitness studio operating around 30 hours of work per week. This was in addition to my full time job working for a local gym. I had to cancel my sessions for that Saturday – My truck was stolen. Or so I thought! It took a couple of hours to figure out what had happened, but as it turns out it was repossessed. That was the beginning of a downward spiral that felt never ending. My home was foreclosed and auctioned off. My wife, daughter (Chloe) and I moved in with my in-laws. A year later I filed for bankruptcy. During all of that time, I went to work and put on a smiling face. I was so grateful for all of my hard working clients and for “working for myself.” Eventually I was able to rent a beautiful townhome in our local town of choice. This home was a key component on my “dream board.” I had found pictures and a description of it a year before being approved to rent it. I’ve always accomplished things that I attach to my dream board. Sometimes the only thing waking me up in the morning during my darkest days was the ongoing goal of operating a successful 6 figure studio in the perfect town with an abundance of perfect clients. This, too, has come to fruition. One key goal, yet to happen, is to attend 1 live event each year to help me grow my family business. What would it mean to my business to win this scholarship? It would prove to any doubters that dreaming big is the only way to grow! Please help me accomplish my goal of attending an amazing event to help me grow my business. Why do I deserve to win over everyone else? This feels like a trick question. I couldn’t argue that I deserve to win over anyone else. As a matter of fact, I tell all my clients that if I win the lottery, they probably wouldn’t know until at least 1 year went by! I am going to answer these questions together, for my future, and that of my business, are inexplicably linked. After too many years of procrastination brought on mainly by fear, during which time my business failed to meet its potential, I am dedicating the next 12 months to making my business support me, and not the other way around. I realise that I need systems and methodologies in place to allow my business to be a success, when it is not just me putting in the effort on a day to day basis.

I cannot work much harder, so evidently need to work smarter! I am being pulled in all directions, stretching my time and energy resources so thinly that I am being forced to neglect my personal needs and goals. I am not ashamed to admit that I need help to get out of my rut (a shallow grave with the ends kicked out), and make the required changes.

So what holds me back? I am a no excuses person, yet there is always an elephant in the room with me which no matter how hard I try, continues to affect my choices. I was born with a number of heart defects, and in spite of several open heart surgeries over the years, I am finding that my health which I have worked so hard to maintain, is slowly being taken from me. Income security is no longer a ‘nice to have’ but a ‘need to have’ to protect my financial future.

I am emotionally strong, with an independent streak which it now turns out is negatively affecting my ability to move forward. I have shied away from using the skills of others to work in my business, wrongly believing that it is necessary for me to be all things to all people. My client base has been predominantly people with long term medical conditions, some of the most disenfranchised in the fitness community, but I am diversifying into more mainstream small group exercise to allow my business to reach more people. I never want to stop working with clients, but ultimately I need to employ other trainers to relieve me of some responsibility.

I am an achiever in life, and it frustrates me that I do not have a clear vision of how to move forwards. I am blessed that through a combination of hard work, and set of circumstances which others may consider unlucky, I own my home. Yet still I have no savings, no investments, and no financial cushion when things go wrong. Until recently I supplemented my fitness business income with work as a freelance journalist, just to make ends meet. I have now realised that in order to leave a legacy which I am proud of, I need to fully commit to what makes me happy, and that is the world of fitness. Within me is the ability to completely change peoples lives through exercise, and it is both an obligation and an honour to share that passion.

It is hard to read the other inspirational stories listed here, and say that I deserve your scholarship more than any of them. Being English I suffer from a natural reserve about shouting my own case, but my situation will not change unless I take action. My life has taught me the value of humility, but also the clear understanding that we need to plan for the future but live for today. I have no-one else to blame, no excuse to replace a sense of personal responsibility, and no circumstance which I can allow to let me deviate from my course.

I have never sought personal accolade, great fortune, or untold possessions, yet I should not be ashamed of wanting more from my life. Only by securing my own future, will I leave myself the ability to reach out and give more time and energy to help others. I am laughing as a write this……perhaps I don’t need to attend FBS2012 after all, as I already have the skills within me to make the required changes. It’s just that by learning from you, your fellow presenters, and everyone at FBS2012 I can take some shortcuts on the road ahead. Time is not on my side (I’m 39), and I am unlikely to make old bones; the time for action is now!

I’m planning on quitting my $90K/year + benefits + 401K + etc., etc. job in April to become a fitness business owner. I currently am a very part-time independent fitness trainer - teaching 2 boot camps, and working with 2 personal training clients and 4 online clients. But I love it!! I sleep, eat, and dream about it. 11 reasons why it would mean everyhting to my business to win the VIP scholarship

- I’ve grown up in a family where nobody in me immediate or extended family has ever earned over six figures annually! Not one! I’m ready to break this trend in my family and provide a new way of thinking for not only them, but also my future family to come.

- Like I said, I grew up in a semi-poor family, I’ve never known what it’s like to have a new car, eat at a 4 star restaurant, take a long vacation outside of the U.S, or even
get on a plane to go anywhere! Yeah you heard me right, coming to FBS will be my first time on plane.

- However this doesn’t mean I’m not capable of massive success. Since starting my own boot camp at age 24, two years ago and getting on board with FBBC back in April I’ve been able to go from never making over 20k a year to now earning just over 6k a month! A huge accomplishment for me, but I’m not done!

- I have unreal aspirations to build my dream business and be earning well over 15k a month at this time next year. This will allow me to open my second FBBC location here in Alabama. My two of six I have plans for.

Currently I am one of those sad trainers in one of your previous blog posts tat makes under 50k a year. Although I am considered to be the best performance enhancement trainer in the area.

I am actually not ashamed of the money I make because I love what I do. Surprise Surprise. I work at 2 gyms and run my own in home training business. I am still trading time for dollars and have a plan to transfer it all to EFT. I have also finished a product but do not know how to launch a product,maximize my website ect ect. I have bought some of your products and each one has broken me free of chains.

I would apply everything immediately as I have thus far. I have applied each post you hav posted in the past 3 months and have increased my income but more importantly decreased the amount of vampires and bad people.

I also subsribed to Early to Rise and the blend of PTPOWER and that just changed my days. I script my days, script my life. I make 30k a year but I know where I am going now, my purpose to serve and now I want reap the monetary benefits of free time.

I CANT WAIT for FBS 12. I will be there whether I win or not as I know what being there means for my business period. More priceless client getting tactics, more creative solutions, more ways to continue to grow my business, more incentive to get outside of my comfort zone…all a given. As you asked, here are my responses for you:

1. If I won the scholarship to attend, it would be a significant jumping off point for my business, and would provide me with the leverage I need to continue to promote goodness into the world. I’ve learned from experience that I do much better when I have the support and guidance of a mentor, and by attending FB12 me and my business would be given the opportunity to meet mentors that I could learn from both from a far and hopefully in a more personally way. I consider myself a leader and mentor to my clients, family and friends, and in order for me to help them and the world, I know that I need the support and encouragement from other successful leaders in our industry. This scholarship would be a blessing for my business.

2. Why do I deserve to win over everyone else? That’s a really good question, and I really had to think about my response. Reading through the comments already left, there are so many people who are deserving of this opportunity.
