Personal Trainer Marketing Tips From FBS10

Andrew and Chloe throwing plastic eggs full of money and organic lollipops off the stage.

Hey Bedros here,

I hope you’re doing awesome and that your personal training and boot camp business is kicking butt!

In just a second I’m gonna tell you how you can win a VIP All Access pass for you and a guest to Fitness Business Summit 11.

I’m writing this blog post from Phoenix, Arizona where I’ll be speaking along side Paula Abdul at Joe Polish’s platinum seminar.

I spent the last three days just relaxing and recovering from Fitness Business Summit before flying out to Phoenix for Joe’s event.

Each year FBS gets bigger and better and this year it was HUGE and sold out weeks in advance with over 300 fitness trainers in attendance from nine countries, the most awesome presenters EVER, tons of money, Ipads, computers, and flip camps were given away and we raised over $5,000 for Shriners Children’s hospital and the Make a Wish foundation…

… A-N-D we had this HUGE marching band come through the entire ballroom and there were AMAZING! Just ask anyone who was there ;)

For me, this was an EPIC event where top fitness professionals from all over the globe get together to learn, share, and get inspired.

The famous "Money Attraction Booth". Several hundred dollars were won

I started Fitness Business Summit back in 2007 because the year before my application to present personal trainer marketing and sales tactics got rejected by both NSCA and IDEA.

So I figured I’d start my own seminar where I’d share real world client getting tactics that had helped me grow my personal training business to $500,000 in gross revenue and I’d invite other top producers to share their secrets.

Well, kinda like Josh Carter says, in 07 FBS was pretty much Josh, me, Pete (my bro in law and partner – not in that way… not that there’s anything wrong with that :) ) , and Di my wife along with a handful of trainers standing around in a taco bell parking lot.

But today, Fitness Business Summit is THE business building, client getting, short cut getting event that sets and breaks all industry standards and expectations.

I mean just the marching band alone was worth attending – seriously – BABOO!

All the money that was collected and donated to Shriners Childrens Hospital

So I thought what I’d do with this blog post is give the attendees who were at FBS10 and past Fitness Business Summits attendees the opportunity to share their big take-a-ways from the weekend and hopefully this will give YOU some gems and nuggets to help in your fitness business.

And the person who leave the most high value and inspiring comment will win the FBS11 VIP All Access pass for two.

So if you were at FBS10 or any other FBS in the past…

What did you anticipate before coming to FBS?

What were your big take-a-aways that you’re going to use in your fitness business?

And what kind of results are you expecting or have gotten from using what you leaned from FBS?

Just answer the three questions above in the comment box below and on Monday I’ll announce the big winner.

Three hundred plus trainers (and Joe Polish)

Wish me luck at Joe’s event. I’m gonna show Paula a couple of new moves I picked up from the Tone It Up girls at FBS.

The Summit was ultimately the best, informative and motivating seminar I have ever attended!

Thanks for the eye opening Bedros!

I’ve heard of FBS 2 years ago and was always “thinking” about attending but never had the good instinct to just borrow the money and go. I was a trainer and never thought much of the business aspect, even though I was barely able to pay my bills and grew more and more hatred at the idea of driving all over town to train clients one-on-one for an hour! When I finally signed up I honestly expected a pitch-fest, where every presenter gives you a tiny bit of content and tries to sell you their products and coaching. At least that’s how all other conferences do it. Never did I expect to walk away with soooo many money making ideas! The presenters just poired their passion and strategies on stage and didn’t hold any info back.

I got so many takeaways from FBS but the 3 biggest are:
    1) how to properly set and close a prospect by using the right steps and questions to get them emotional involved that they’re willing to drop $10,000 in training… just like Samantha Taylor did when she closed 42 straight clients!

2)using a different kind of marketing funnel for my bootcamps to consistently get 70% conversion from my website like Leanne Ellington.

    3) this was a biggie, Josh Carter’s walk-thru of exactly how to market, run and profit hugely from 6 week body transformation contests!

These were just 3 of the top of my head, and with all the strategies that I personally learned over the 3 day FBS, I honestly expect to turn my barely profitable fitness business into a 6-figure (and beyond) business with other people working in my business, and me working ON my business.
Thanks to Bedros and all the awesome presenters! Can’t wait till the next one!
    Steve

    I think your first photo with you and your kids says it all. For me the general take home message of the whole weekend was this;

“Do it for the passion and let the profits follow”
“Do it for the profit and you’ll always dread tomorrow”

We tell our clients they must find that reason, that goal, that want/desire for why they truly want to lose weight, get stronger, or whatever it may be. We’re drilling them with this urgency to take action and have a purpose for what they do.

Unfortunately, we often allow ourselves to forget why we want to do what we do…change lives. We get caught up in the little things and miss that amazing big picture that is simply the fact that we make people better than what they were before they walked through our doors and into our lives.

We also forget that those same people have forever changed our lives and we should be appreciative of that fact.

We sell a service, we sell the answers to lost hope and forgotten dreams.

Hey Bedros, I already knew it was going to rock because I attended FBS08 and this one was 10 times better. A few main things I took away are staying very involved with your HBs and educating them on how to be more effective. Staying excited and making them cry was so amazing. I have two new bootcampers starting already, teamed up for cross promos with a Massage Envy and a lady who owns a yogurt and cupcake shop :-)
    See you in June.

    Hey Bedros,

I wanted to tell you that I thought the conference absolutely rocked! I got tons of info and cant wait till next year. As a matter of fact I would love to attend FBS 10 1/2, but I dont guess you have one of those. But maybe you should. What it was able to do the most for me is simply get away from my business for a few days and really analize it. You get so wrapped up in the day to day stuff sometimes its hard to focus on what needs to be focussed on.

    So thanks again

    Chad

P.S. I would appreciate it if you would repost the group picture from the confrence. I was way to the right on that photo and got cut off….:)

  • Tina Fargnoli

OOOOWWW….I am gonna think about this one!
…. but I just have to say, I hope you shake your money maker on stage (hopefully the girls gave ya some extra moves so you could “spice it up”).

  • http://www.myworkoutcreator.com Mike

After watching the highlight videos I am really bummed I didn’t make it out there. I will definitely be there next year. Keep up the great info.

No comments yet? I’ve had this page up and I’ve been refreshing it every once in a while to see what people learned from FBS.

I got a few tips just from the clips Josh Carter shared.

I’m definitely going to keep coming back to this page to see what other people learned.

FBS 2010, was the best money I have spent in a long time!. I had no idea what to expect and was totally blown away! The information I learnt was worth a million times more than we paid. The speakers were so honest and approachable this is what made this conference so much different to others. So much more amazing.

Ive only been back at work for 2 days and already have two new clients and a boot camp starting in two weeks. All the info was amazing but the most valuable take away for me was, put in the hard work, ruthlessly manage your time, get connected with the other people in your area (hair dressers, RMT etc), get out there and become known in your local area, get EFT NOW!, give back more than I already was to my clients and community and to love what I do with a passion which I do so that one was easy. And lastly save up fast and get myslef a MENTOR like last week!!!

I cant wait for next year this summit just cant be missed I havent stopped talking about it to all my clients and friends (they all think ive gone crazy, maybe I have haha, but they will see, give me a little time)

Thank you so much Bedros for the most amazing three days and all your team I cant wait to see you next year and to be able to tell you how much ive improved in the year and to learn a tone of more new stuff in 2011.

    Jodi

FBS10 was the best yet. Since we already own most of Bedros’ incredible programs & had attended last year’s FBS, I didn’t think I’d get a lot out of it. Boy Was I Wrong!! It seems like each year gets better and better.

I went in thinking “can I make this work?” and left knowing “This IS going to work!”

There was so much amazing, real-world usable, practical information that we had to prioritize what we would focus on just to make the most of what we learned.

    Our top 3 priorities were:
    1. Go over Samantha’s amazing fine tune of the “sales presentation”. We have had clients not standing on the scale because we didn’t want to upset them, Samantha taught us how to funnel that into motivating the client.

    2. The “ToneItUp” girls showed us how to really use video to increase potential buyers trust. We’ve already started this up.

    3. We have an info product to market and rather than waiting for everything to be perfect we are moving forward now to market an amazing e-book

    4. Okay I know I said “top 3″ but here’s a bonus: Selling is good. Everything has to be sold, so don’t feel bad about selling your service. This may sound really basic, but it’s amazing how that change of mindset makes approaching and speaking with people about our service so much more fun, appealing, and with that confidence - effective!

I could go on and on (I know I already have!) but I am just so pumped up! Oh! and that’s bonus #2 - Energize owners translates into energized trainers = energized clients! And that is an energy that will mean better retention and referrals! I just wish we could have an FBS every month!

Oh, and Bedros, you might want to practice those moves a couple times in front of a mirror before you teach Paula! ;) Good luck at Joe’s event - I know you’ll dazzle them!

    Hey Bedros,
I really didn’t expect much before I went to the conference because I’d never met you. I just got alot of email….

The Summit far exceeded my expectations. The best take-away was about closing a sale. I’ve already tried my new techniques and have had 100% success so far! Now I just need to get it all in a format that my staff will understand.

I have to admit though, that I lied about your marching band in my testimonial. So I made you a video to explain. I posted it on youtube for easy access: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5XbKt0NB-o

Robin!! Awesome marching band. That’s what I was looking for :)

First year attending the summit and loved it. great information, a lot to process in a short time but there were little things that I took away from each speaker. For instance Josh Carter and his 6 week transformation, Leanne and her bootcamp strategies, Michael and of course Joe Polish. Great stuff look forward to attending next year. The main point I think that really stuck with me is you have to implement these strategies. just thinking about it does no good. You have to get out there and do it.

  • http://www.fitconcepts.com Saman Bakhtiar

I had a blast. Each year it just gets bigger and better. I don’t think next you are going to need more space. You had it PACKED.

  • http://www.sanjosebootcamp.com Brett Riesenhuber

Have not missed a single FBS and am stoked to have made it to this one. Hands down the best content delivered yet, and the others rocked too.

Bedros is the man and always gets some awesome people up on stage to present. Beyond the great info, it is just a ton of fun. Many of the people I know in fitness…I met at FBS (or because of it), and often only see at FBS.

I had a nice long drive home, but stayed late to listen to Josh “C-Diet” Carter’s awesome presentation…then drove home (6 Hours), got in late, didn’t sleep much before getting up at 420AM for boot camp, and still lit it up on Monday like I was a crack dealer! (hell, I have not slowed down yet!)

Don’t miss FBS11…It only gets better!

B!!! To you and all the presenters thanks for making my first summit the best! I learned a whole bunch, I already feel that much ahead!!! I am pumped! I made some great connections. I am looking forward to next year, bringing my sister!!!!

You and the crew rock!! Although, I did wonder if y’all were all ADD or ADHD or something - LOL :-)

Thanks for a great weekend. BABOO!!!

PS: Love my Flip Cam & the Eee PC!! I thought about giving the PC away, but I am a techie, and I love it! find it great to use when I am on the go…I will think of something else to give away at the end of the summer bootcamps!

PSS: still can’t get that damn song out of my head: http://www.jango.com/music/War?l=0

    LOL!!!

  • http://www.gogirlbootcamps.com Dan Go

Awesome summit and even more awesomer (is that a word?) people involved.

I took away so much from that weekend but my biggest takeaway of all was being surrounded by so many successful fitness pros does something to you.

Just like Bedros said, “Water seeks its own level”. Just being around these fitness pros has doubled my income.

Great summit, can’t wait to do it again!

What did you anticipate before coming to FBS?

    >> To be honest when i went last year I wasn’t expecting anything. My friend suggested us going and I went more because of the location than the event. Crazy but true!

What were your big take-a-aways that you’re going to use in your fitness business?

    >>OH WHERE TO START! I came away a new person! Motivated, Energized, Focused! Something just “clicked”. It was the best business decision i have ever made.

And what kind of results are you expecting or have gotten from using what you leaned from FBS?

    >> Motivation, Focus, and KNOWLEDGE of where to go and what to do! Before I would have some many questions and I didn’t understand what to do with what I had. Now with the knowledge that I have learned my business (and happiness) has gone to another level.

Best thing I could have done!

Coming to FBS10 I didn’t know what the hell to expect! I can’t even remember how I stumbled upon Bedros to begin with, but I’ve been receiving his emails for more than 2 years. At first, I didn’t take it seriously. It was just something else to read that would hopefully give me some ideas.

Now that I have begun to follow his blog religiously and have made the commitment to put his tactics, as well as the tactics of Steve, McCombs and all of the guests who post, my business has FINALLY started to grow.

To be COMPLETELY honest, I anticipated that I would sit through the first day and pick up some good stuff, and that I would maybe spend part of Saturday and Sunday touring the area, since it was my first time there … well, I DIDN’T MISS A SINGLE SESSION! I certainly did not anticipate that I would have a door step greeting from Bedros and Leanne on the night before FBS! Lol. I’ve been to a ton of other conferences, and FBS blew them all away. And that was after just day 1.

My top 3 takeaways are … 1) Identify your dream, envision it, and walk in it everyday. 2) Josh Carter and Leanne Ellington’s explanation of how to construct and how to implement a 6 week total body transformation program. This should instantly add value to my programming and allow me to bring in extra revenue. 3) “Be prepared to destroy anything in your life that isn’t excellent”

It’s tough to pare it down to just 3. The content was friggin’ awesome. period.

The goals I am expecting as a result of attending include 1) growing my business to 6 figures by the time FBS11 rolls around, then making it happen in half that time, 2) Successfully implementing Fit Body Boot Camp in my city, 3) fostering relationships with the people I met at FBS10 so that we all can provide encouragement, support and new ideas to each other so we can blow up our respective businesses, and 4) enlisting the services of Bedros via his Mastermind Mentoring Group as soon as it comes available again.

Still on a high from this shit … Love it!

  • Curtis

    Big takeaways from FSB10:

    1. Baboo. Nuff said.

    2. Marching bands in Cali sorta blow. ;)

    3. If it’s not in my 5%, it probably ain’t gonna be done.

    Thanks for a great weekend!

    Bedros!!
    Best FBS EVER!!! :)

I came to FBS09 (expecting a pitch-fest) and was blown away by content! So much so, that I signed up in the pre-sale for this year before I left the 09 summit. And what a great pay-off it turned out to be!

So my big take aways… Tough to pic the best, as there were so many…. But here it goes:

    1. f there is a problem in your business or your life, look in the mirror. You will see the problem and solution.

    2. We can suffer (work our a$$e$ off) to be successful, or we can have crappy business and suffer. Might as well work our a$$e$ off and and suffer to make our lives and many others better.

    3. Reciprocity….nuf said!

    4. Never go without FBS every year. All marketing/biz-building strategies aside, when you get together with so many amazing people who are like-minded, positive and passionate people, you can’t help but come home pumped up and ready to crush it!!

    5. Manage time better by chunking things together (for example: shoot multiple videos one after the next to keep in the same mindset. Make all calls strait through without stopping, etc.)

    6. I’ve already managed to put together and implement 3 client getting strategies rolling. FB ads and Groups, Meetup.com groups, just ordered my lead boxes and made my list of businesses and began calling to get my lead-boxes in (so simple! and sooo effective!) I made and edited my firts “client of the week” video to post on Youtube and FB.

    7. TAKE MASSIVE ACTION!!!!!

My expectation is just as I said in my testimonial video for you: I will triple my monthly revenue by the beginning of next year… and then I cut the time for my goal in half: triple revenue within 3 months!!

Thnx so much for putting this together! You have truely revolutionized the fitness industry by giving us small business owners (trainers, studio owners, boot camp owners, etc.) the knowledge, motivation, and solid marketing STRATEGIES to compete with (and likely WIN) against the big box gyms of old!

  • http://www.ptpower.com Bedros

    @Curtis, well said… BaBoo.

  • http://www.hocevarperformance.com Luka Hocevar

    Bedros,
Wow, way to keep making the FBS better and raising the bar!

There were so many things I took away from the Summit but most importantly it just reinforced how important it is to be around like minded motivated people that are more successful than you as it lights a fire under your ass to get more done. Even if there wasn’t as much great content as there was, the summit would still be top notch because of that.

The other thing that was reinforced is that nothing beats ACTION! Sometimes you feel like you’re taking enough action but you see a whole other level of action taking making you push your own limits of what you thought was “enough”. Always stay uncomfortable to move ahead and be responsible for where you are at.

I really hope I can win VIP access for next year as I would give the tickets away to a couple of local trainers that really need a mind shift and a push in the right direction as their passion and work ethic are in the right place.

Look forward to FSB 11 already!

FBS 2010 was amazing! Joe Polish was there enough said! I implemented 1 strategy that Joe Polish said on Saturday night while at the FBS and Sunday morning I made an extra $750. Wow! Seven Figure Sam laid out a practical nutrition guide for clients to achieve maximum results. Samantha Taylor gave the best presentation on how to close a sale. In fact she will probably come out with a sequel to Bedros’ “Close 9 out of 10 Clients” DVD, it is will be called “How to Close 42 out of 43 Clients”…j/k. If you were not there you missed a lot but there is always next year. Pray that you have a good friend to fill you in because if you don’t you will be left behind… See you next year Bedros and Diana!

Let me start off by saying I had surgery scheduled for May 3rd, but there was nothing keeping from coming to the FBS10. I came to get the info I expected and more. Of course, my expectations were knocked out of the ball park. During my surgery, in my anesthetic sleep I dreamed of growing my business. I know that through coaching with Bedros, Steve and Chris there is no place to go but to the top.
What did you anticipate before coming to FBS? As a previous attendee of the FBS, I was expecting as always the blueprint to take my fitness business next level. To see some of the attendees from last year who are doing big things like LeAnne and Mike. Also, meet new attendees with great solutions to grow our business. Not to mention the big giveaways like moola, IPADS, flip cams and more moola.
What were your big take-a-aways that you’re going to use in your fitness business? Again I mentioned the blueprints. I learned that even though it is given to you, you still have to work the blueprint and get a coach (Bedros, Steve) to help you work the plan. Don’t chase the shiny stuff.
And what kind of results are you expecting or have gotten from using what you learned from FBS? I am expecting huge gains in my business as well as my community, If the business grows so does the benefits of giving back to our community.

  • Jeff Simmons

**What did you anticipate before coming to FBS?
    - The baddest mother around steve hochman…how in the world was he goin to top his freaking masked entrance? That dude is my hero!!
    - Was there really money in those eggs?(yes, i can vouch, managed to grab 2 of them)
    - I was just stoked to meet this guy named Bedros that i had been following a few years back on YouTube.
-Who was this guy vince del monte that my sister kept talking about? and why was she requesting a signed napkin?

**What were your big take-a-aways that you’re going to use in your fitness business?
-Go Freakn APE…pretend like your putting on a performance and their is a tv crew following you around!
-Wake up to achieve your dreams not just to train your clients!!
-These guys really do care about us as fitness professionals and genuinely want us to succeed. Helps that they have the craziest kick ass marketing tactics around.
-Get out of your COMFORT ZONE….stop thinking about doing it and go take MASSIVE ACTION
-That these guys all came from humble backgrounds and earned every penny they’ve made by taking action. It inspired me to do something great in my business.
-That every great mind has a mentor or someone they go to, to perfect their craft. Bedros talking about his mastermind groups really drove home the point that even these guys who have achieved great things are still reaching out and thirsting for knowledge.

**And what kind of results are you expecting or have gotten from using what you learned from FBS?
-FBS changed how i look at my clients! Hochman really taught me how to take my personality up a few notches!
-My new found passion has led to better client retention, more referrals, and tons of professional contacts that I wouldnt have had if not for going APE everyday.
-I have stopped hiding behind my computer screen while marketing! I have stepped outside my comfort zone and crushed those barriers.
-I hope to open a Fit body boot camp location in the next couple months and be on pace for 6 figures and totally kill it!!

    You Guys Rock!

Before I got to the business summit I was not sure to expect. I thought really these big time players in the fitness industry are going to tell me the secrets that made them successful. I couldn’t beleive I thought we would get some tips that were useful here and there but what I didn’t realize is that you would seriously get the step by step blueprint to be successful as you wanted to be in your fitness pursuits.
    My top 3 takes away
    1) Reciprocity- show some appreation with no expectation in return and you will get greater gifts back because of it.
    2) Over deliver- Gurantee Results to your clients then over deliver the results, the experience, everything just over deliver and be cool doing so.
    3) Mentorship- We ask our clients to invest, know, like, and trust us and we have to the same into others for ourselves to become better as well. Don’t hold onto your secrets of success so tightly and let others know.
Literally the next day after i arrived home from FBS 2010 I closed a $1500 dollar program my best before that ever was $300 i beat my best effort ever by 5 times the amount just my doing a few things I learned at FBS 2010.
Thank you bedros and to everyone who spoke and attended you have really inspired me to SHOW UP and do what is excellent all of the time.

  • http://www.fit-bodybootcamp.com Rebecca Gold

FBS10 Rocked I learned so much I am still dizzy thanks so much to all the presenters for their great info. I also met some great new friends and associates who to me are really the golden nuggets of the entire thing it is these new people in my life who are going to make the long term difference in my business they are my new go to people, mentors, coaches, and friends I can pick up the phone and call when I need the extra push.

That was the number one thing I learned get into a mastermind group and become coachable we heard it at least 50 times it truly rung and bell with me going full force.

Thanks to all! See ya at FBS 11 for sure!!!

  • http://www.miraclesfitness.net Dan Ritchie

It was far more than I could have ever expected! I came home with out 10 times more ideas than I could have hoped. It will take me weeks to implement all of them.

Biggest take away if I have to work in my business or if I am trading my time for a wage (training a client) then I really have a job not a business. I want my business to work for me, not the other way around.

My first quarter numbers were already up 40% from 2009, but now I am not satisfied with that and fully expect that I should have doubled my business by FBS2011.

Maybe the Marching band was a metaphor…..Great Ideas with poor execution leave everyone a little disappointed.
Next year FBS11 will be so big maybe UCLA marching band will come through.

  • http://www.fitnusbiznus.com Clarence Ferguson

    Hey Bedros-
You never disapoint, my fitness business was in such bad shape, that I scraped what I had in savings to make it down there. I took two of the ideas I learned and have paid myself back for the expense of Driving and the 3 night hotel stay. I realized after hearing everyone speak I was the biggest hurdler in my career. I found myself being the only one who believed in me. So I hope to continue you using your systems and the other presenters there . Because I can finally see the light. Although I will have to start with the low hanging fruit stuff( till my marketing budget picks up). I know that these techniques will take me to the six figure mark.

Thanks again for putting this on, you have a wonderful staff and family and I appreciate everything you have done for me. And I mean that Bedros, you have found your calling you must be proud you are changing peoples lives, and you are one of my heros. I’m proud to say “I’m with Bedros”

    HI Berdros,

Here is what I learned from NOT Attending the FBS10, yes that’s right I didn’t go!! NOT because I wasn’t skeptical of you or your team. To be honest I tried signing up for early registration and my CC got declined. NO sad violin here, just the truth.

    1. Trying is not action!! you must do, not try!! giving it your all, going ape on it. I tried going to FBS, but i did not take action!!

    2. It’s all your self perspective!! The way you view thing in life, business, poeple and fitness ect.

    3. Get MY ass to FBS11 even if I have to sell a kidney !!! NO matter what happen I need to go next year!!

P.S I been getting your e-mails for couple of months, I bought the newsletter service and love it so do my clients. Also have been implementing all the info you send our way from your blog and videos. Thank for your passion and hard work you are truly changing peoples lives.

    Bedros,

First, I want to thank you. There is no doubt that FBS far exceeded EVERYONE’S expectations and I think you would agree that even you were amazed. I came into the Summitt with a $50K goal in the next 60 days and with all the information given over the 3 days I left with no doubt that goal could be reached. However, my perspective changed over the course of the next few days as I began to apply some of the things I learned from all the great presenters especially Leanne, Joe, Josh, YOU but especially Alex.

I was actually the first person to win one of the Flip cams, then the guy immediately to my right won a trip into the money machine and won $120 and later the guy to my immediate left won Leanne’s book give-away “The Go-Giver”. Honestly, at the time, I thought he got the shaft because the book was less than $20 and our prizes were a little more valuable. Boy was I WRONG.

I read the book on Monday which is about the 5 Laws of Stratospheric Success. As I’m reading the book, I find myself more intune with everything going on around me and I begin eavesdropping on a lady (Amber) chatting away on her phone next to me. As she talks about the problem she is having, I’m reading about the 1st Law: “Your true worth is determined by how much more you give in value than you take in payment.” Incredibly this is just what she needs to hear so I lean over and offer Amber the book. She reads the line I am pointing to and says, “Thank you, I needed that.”

As we continued to talk I discover that she once was offered a spot on the reality show “Workout”, I guess it was on Bravo or something. She didn’t appear on the show but had lost 35 pounds doing the program. I congratulated her on that success but she informed me that she had already put the weight back on. Now this is not a story about how I got a new client because I didn’t. I did however get to apply another law in the book: “Your influence is determined by how abundantly you place other people”s interests first. Stop keeping score.”

I opened up my email on my phone and the first was from a trainer who posted 19 ways to stay in shape while pregnant and no sooner did I read this headline, I see “What to expect when you are expecting up on Amber’s computer.” What are the chances of that? So of course, I get her email and forward it to her. She asked if I have a newsletter and if I would add her name and email to it. So my list is growing.

The next day I go back to the bookstore and I see this woman who trained at Gold’s gym where I used to work. She is talking with another woman with a cast on her foot. I over hear her talk about her experience working as a trainer and how frustrated she had become. In fact she was looking for a book on marketing for her boyfriends construction company. So I get up out of my chair, go grab the book Leanne recommended, purchase it and walk over to the woman (Laura). I ask if she remembers me from Golds and she says yes. Then I say, “You might think this is really weird but I bought you this book.” I then proceed with my best impression of you and tell her, “I’m not going to let you quit. I don’t even want you to think that way. Don’t even go there. I’ve got some suggestions for you.” And then we sit and talk for about an hour…I give her my synopsis of the entire FBS10 weekend, throw out Joe Polish”s name like he is some close friend of mine and she leaves newly inspired and wants to work for me in one of my upcoming bootcamps. By the way, the woman with the cast was Laura’s first ever personal training client and was looking for a trainer with post-rehab experience and that was right down my alley. Two days later she signs up for a month program.

Alex McMillan talked about “Finding the Passion…” and he reminded me about my own life. It was like he was telling my story. I remember tragic events in my life that I too had to overcome. Those things helped shape me into the person I am today. They help me be a better father and have motivated me to seek success so I can provide the things for my son that I did not have growing up. You said that you work so your kids would never see the inside of a daycare center. The point is that we all have our own reasons for striving for success.

I have since changed my 60 day goal from making $50k to “positively affecting as many lives of the people I come in contact with over the next 60 days.” I figure if I can offer solutions to their fitness problems; the amount of money I make will be proportionate and I will have acheived success as long as I apply any of the strategies I learned at FBS10.
    BABOO!
