Two And a Half Days In Jamaica (New York)

Posted on March 16, 2009 By Bedros

I have a weird video for you today. No client getting, money generating, or productivity tips today.

Just a weird video…

This weekend Josh Carter and I flew out to Queens, New York for my Renegade Fitness Marketing workshop.

The workshop attendees were totally awesome! And the feedback was out of this world.

But something freaky happened the day before the workshop. It was the day we arrived in Queens.

We asked the dude at the front desk of the hotel to call us a cab. First off what he called WAS NOT a cab. This guys rolls up in a beat up SUV, had no taxi cab sticker or markings - but we got in anyway.

(BIG MISTAKE)

After dinner we called the dude back to come by and pick us up. By this time it’s like 9:30 P.M.

We asked him to stop by a 7-11 type of store so we can buy some water and snacks.

Here’s where things got WEIRD…

All of a sudden we were in the most run down part of Jamaica, NY. It could have been Compton, CA if I didn’t know better.

The place he took us was beyond a hole-in-the-wall.

This three minute video shows you how we went from having a decent dinner to almost getting shot:

Enjoy…

There was a reason why I told you ” GET HOME SAFE !! ”
LOL ..Next Time Let Me Pick The Area for your stay. I have hook ups with the Hotels. You could of stayed in Manhattan or Downtown Brooklyn. Who told you to go to Queens. Use your resources next time. LOL ..See you at the SUMMIT !!

HAHA! I didnt want to say anything, but… Queens? Aside from the Mets theres not much else going on, except for some nice Columbian women, in Queens. Like Alan said, next time stay in Manhattan or Brooklyn Heights! Glad you came out though!

Standing on the street corner in the night with a video cam, uhmmm, Risky business bro!! I wouldnt do that and Im a self defence instructor.

Also never tell anyone in the hotels what you are there for, even staff!! They can spread the word to friends then realise you may have some extra cash, etc and come to your room…….it happens all the time.

I´m from London, but experianced some crazy experiances in Miami and new york…..Real eye openers.

Kaiser @ 9:39 am

Glad you didn’t have to use any of those emergency buttons - haha -

yeah, next time do your homework, serious personal trainers all work out of Manhattan where we charge $100/hr plus for personal training. No disrespect to your info products but one reason why I don’t buy into them is that the fitness market is much different here in NYC. We don’t sell personal training for $35 a session. We don’t sell it for $50 a session. We also have ridiculous commercial real estate costs so opening a studio is nearly impossible though we do have a few private personal training gyms where we can pay $20-$35 for each hour we bring a client in. FWIW, this is why many trainers out here don’t sell 30 minute sessions because we are being charged by the hour for the private gym and the private gyms won’t budge on that rate. IF your interestd in more info on the state of the big city training market feel free to drop me a line.

Hey Dave,

We booked the workshop in Queens becuase it was close to the airport, and that to me was a priority. Thanks for the feedback, but with all due repect I think you have it all wrong. I have almost a dozen coaching clients between NY and NJ and they all kick ass and are earning multiple six figures.

And you dont need a studio to earn that kind of money. And you certinly dont need to train 60 minute sessions just becuase that how the gyms are charging you. There’s a trick to getting around that and making 30 minute sessions VERY profitable.

C’mon guys, are you kidding me? Jamaica, Queens can look pretty harsh on you Southern Cal boys but there are alot
harsher places. Give me a heads up next time you’re in NYC
and I’ll take you to my old stomping grounds of the South Bronx
and Brooklyn. Some of theses spots may just make you pee your
pants. FYI, I currently reside in Colorado but I do go back
home and wonder how I made it out. Anyway, glad you guys made it back, but next time keep the street video taping to a minimum. It’s the one thing that may have gotten you in some trouble.

Best Regards
Richard

Bedros,
Come on, with Josh there, who is going to bother you…?
He’d have the muggers pushing those buttons.
