2012 State of the Industry Report

Posted on December 2, 2011 By Bedros

At the end of every year I lock myself in the HQ for half a day and craft the State Of The Industry Trends and Predictions report for the following year.

This year, for the first time ever, I’ve included survey results that I took from my list. The results of the survey are downright shocking - eye opening and something that CAN’T BE IGNORED by our community.

Also in the report…

Zack Wilkinson @ 5:46 am

Awesome. I started doing more bootcamps a year ago at a corp location. Now the program is better than it has been in years. I have 45 people total. I need to add more and add small group training. My biggest concern is the “man” Is controlling the cost of small group ($40) camps ($13) per hour.

Dennis Blair @ 6:05 am

Bedros, you pretty much describe what I have done with one-on-one training. In my town, there was no one doing in-home personal training. No one. So what did I do? I did exactly what you described here. I have three trainers doing the driving to the clients, I only offer 30 minute sessions and I offer 6, 9 or 12 month contracts. Don’t want to commit to at least 6 months? Then there are other trainers who will take you on. Just this month I finally became a member of the six figure club. And this is with a small town (about 150,000 residents) with seven major gyms, countless boutique gyms AND one of your Fit Body Boot Camps. ;) I filled a niche, became the face of that niche and I am killing it! And what is going to happen next year? I already know how many clients I need to get to $200k. Onward!

Patrick Willard @ 6:56 am

Thanks Bedros…a valuable report. Great reminders for new year.

tony @ 7:20 am

Well done Bedros, we look forward to this report every year, the info in it is always amazing. 75% under 100,000 that’s an incredible statistic because it also means 25% are making over 100,000. How many jobs or business out there provide that much opportunity for growth along with so much help to get there (for drastically less then a college degree), like yourself.

Thanks for all the great info!

Tony

Bedros @ 10:05 am

My pleasure Tony :)
Continued success!

@Patrick, you’re very welcome

Bedros @ 10:08 am

@Dennis, love your focus man! Carve out your niche and dominate my man!

Bedros @ 10:09 am

@Zack, down with the man! ;)

You are a big benefit to the fitness community.

Randy @ 11:22 am

Excellent information Bedros…we are going to hit the ground running in 2012!

james @ 2:23 pm

Thanks Bedros,

There is enough in the report for people to make 2012 so much better than 2011.

There’s 5 points in your ‘Rapid Fire’ section I’ll turn into my 2012 blueprint.

Simple stuff + Plan x Action = Awesome Results!

Just the change in mindset you guys teach has made a huge difference. Like you said 100k isn’t that much.
When you’re making 50k it seems like sooooo much, but when you’re there, 200 seems even closer.
Keep raising the bar and we’ll keep on following.

Hey Bedros, this is perfect timing for me. I did some major downsizing in my business. Now I’m working towards building it up from scratch. I see the benefit of small group training and boot camps. This weekend I’m starting my newsletters for 2012. The first one goes out on Monday!

Thanks Bedros!

Kenny @ 2:39 pm

Hey Bedros, have you heard of PVX Crave?
Check it out at: http://www.kennethreed1.pvxonline.com

Thanks, Bedros!

Hey Bedros - read somewhere on this blog before someone calling you Bedros Coolian - its true - the info you provide is awesome - ya know its funny I cam across you in a round about way - I started training intensely over a year ago - found my true calling, decided I’d put my love for training and my desire to help others together and become a personal trainer - I started to do some research on what kind of certifications I should do (I’m currently in the process of completing my certification) and I came across some “Gurus” offering potential PT’s advice - I thought initially these guys were brilliant - so knowledgeable - so I started doing more research - every time I searched - I kept seeing the name Bedros, Bedros this, Bedros that, Bedros, Bedros, Bedros. I’ll be honest I thought who the F**k is Bedros but went about my day reading the other “Gurus” blogs, sites etc. I was learning a lot but still the name Bedros was popping up - what the hell I said - I’ll check him out - well the rest as they say is history. These other “Gurus” while good have not a patch on you Sir. That is a fact. I have learned so much about myself through you over the last month than I have in 5 years in college - FACT!!

As mentioned I’m currently completing my Certification - but through your info also laying the foundations for my success when I’m certified so I can hit the ground not only running but hitting the ground so effin hard I’ll be breaking land speed records when I get started.

You’ll be hearing from me soon again.

Train hard, expect success, have fun!!

P.S. See you at Fitness Business Summit 2012. I’ll be flying transatlantic to shake your hand!!

Astounding! Two posts i made tonight - one was asking a couple of PT pals where they thought we might be heading this year - I am needing inspiration for training my clients, and the second was saying i really think 2012 will be my year! I have so many ideas - and the main direction is TO GET off FB and focus on re-connecting with my locals! My instincts tell me to also consolidate all the programmes i offer currently (but seperately) into one big ‘follow me’ route for long term gains to all who join my club - it is too much to explain here but enough said - i am printing off this graat advice and will use it as a template. thank you x

Greg @ 1:56 am

Right on the money Bedros!

Ellie @ 12:05 pm

I’m projecting 10 grand in sales/rebills for just january 2012. I started 2011 with two clients in this gym. I pay 50 percent of everything I sell/bill to the gym where I do my boot camps. After I pay staff and the gym, I’m making squat Now I’m running out of space.* Beating head against wall*

Nancy @ 3:53 am

Thanks Bedros! Reading this report, I felt like you were talking about me, training one-on-one, with a bachelor’s degree, and earning less than $50k a year, this information has been a real eye opener.. I am finding my niche market now!

December 20, 2011

Priscilla @ 7:34 pm

Bedros you are absolutely one of the best in the fitness industry. You have opened up my eyes to some great points you bring up. Boot camps are on te rise and we have to look at it as a plus if you are starting out know and figuring out who is your niche market. I currently am running 30 minute session but have a lot o still learn about marketing and leaving he comfort zone. Great job

Bedros, I’ve been a long time follower. You inspire me every day to push the envelope a little further. I feel like I’m almost ready to branch out on my own (away from the big box gym). I just fear the loss in reliable income when I have 2 young children a wife a mortgage, the standard story. Looking forward to making leaps in bounds in the next couple of years. Thanks again for the trends break down.

Josh @ 11:03 am

Let me tell you bro, I’ve been doing group sessions for a big chain for a couple of years now. Love the people in my classes, hate how it doesn’t keep my lights on in the house. I started my small group training business this past Monday and it’s a success. I feel sooo empowered and informed using your knowledge and techniques and I wanted to thank you AHEAD of time. I’m thanking you bc I know I’m 6-7 figure bound because I have a coach like you. Thanks man, I’ll be seeing you at one of your masterminds in due time. ONWARD!!

Bedros @ 4:13 pm

Thanks Josh! Continued success!

David Ayash @ 7:36 am

Hey man, signing up with a gym, so i can get my name out there.. going to start working on small group training instead of one on one, i was doing one on one training a few years back it worked for a bit, but dropped off after. With group training people can afford it, stay longer, achieve results faster and i will make double the money from one on one. plus i will making more noise in the Gym.
Thanks man your an inspiration.. i am ready to start my journey and start making that paper..

Bedros @ 11:51 am

All the best David!

Neil Tkatchuk @ 11:07 am

Bedros, I just read through your post about the state of the Fitness Industry for 2012. Although the world is changing technologically the same principles still apply. Put people first, treat them like gold, and legitimately care about helping people and seeing them succeed and you will find success. I am also a big believer in practicing your methods of helping others on yourself. The best teachers are the ones who have learned through experience. Thanks for the inspiration today.

If you have time check us out here: http://www.trenchfitness.com/ and on fb: http://www.facebook.com/trenchfitness

The next step is to implement an e-book/dvd package like you have described so we can help and motivate many others!

Bedros @ 7:29 pm

Thanks Neil. All the best!
