Hey Bedros
Nice move on this one. My belief is that if you can’t contribute anything anything of value on a blog comment or on a FB wall then don’t write anything. Adding to the discussion is what social networking is all about, not hocking your wares (especially if the they are cheap and nasty).
Defeats the whole purpose of building a trusting relationship with your crew. Bring out the hedge-trimmer I say….
Robert @ 8:07 pm
Bedros,
I think you are doing the right thing. Not only is it tacky and bad marketing to pitch to people who don’t want it and aren’t interested, but it de-values facebook, twitter, and the rest.
I get ‘friended’ a lot for NLP or Hypnosis by some really cool people that are interested in what’s going on and keeping the pulse, but I also get (in the health arena) a lot of people selling supplements, network marketing, and other stuff that isn’t really even relevant on my page.
So I say PRUNE THEM!!! And that will be great feedback for them too.
Loved closing 9 out of 10 BTW…
Thanks,
-Robert
Robby Wilson @ 8:08 pm
Bedros,
I completely agree with you man! I just recently added you on facebook, but I did not go and start posting links and advertisement B.S. on your page, simply out of PROFESSIONAL RESPECT! I personally feel that unless you read somewhere on someone’s page or have been personally invited by someone to post a link, DO NOT DO THAT MESS! It is a desperation move by a “follower status” business! They are trying to take advantage of the success by a leader, and it is desperate and just flat out un-professional!
Furthermore, get rid of them! Get rid of the B.S. Keep up the good work man, I love you and your affiliate’s postings, very good info!

Hi Bedros,
You are definitely doing the right thing here! It is really lame when people try to hop on someone else’s FB page (or any other social media outlet) to promote their stuff to someone else’s list. It’s just not good mojo - I completely agree. Thanks for keepin’ it real!
Sara
Allyse Alamo @ 8:10 pm
Those people are often looking to make quick money & often don’t care in the least about what they are pushing. If someone I trust uses a product that I know they love & enjoy, that will prompt me to inquire about it. I am a Beachbody Coach as well as PT & student MT, so I make money from products like P90X & Shakeology. (www.beachbodycoach.com/fitfaballyse) I also have my own online fitness store from PFP, but I only promote products I use & enjoy by in fact using them & telling people about it. They notice a difference in me & genuinely trust my opinion. But I promote by posting something I’m proud of by tweeting it or in my FB status or on my PT fan page. If people ask about it I give them my honest opinions as well as solid facts & resources. I care enough to help & answer questions, whether or not I’m profiting directly.
There’s a place and time for “pitches” but not on the main page. If you belong to a group or if you create a group that has a common bond to your “pitch”, then you might want to mention an offer or product that you endorse, but it just clutters up the main pages when people put all kinds of crap up there.
Carolyn Hansen @ 8:13 pm
Start clipping!
Carolyn
Jason Pegg @ 8:14 pm
I think you’re doing the right thing. I had some asshole talk about advocare (MLM crap) EVERY POST. It seems that much like twitter and LinkedIn, facebook is becoming another forum for the lazy to spam their shitty affilliate links. Hopefully the new FTC rule has something that can reign these guys in, and they drop the hammer on some of these guys. It pisses me off to no end, and it has really trashed what used to be a good thing, as far as twitter, facebook, and linkedIn.
Jason

Jean-Michel @ 8:14 pm
100% correct!!! Off to the lions they go! I’d do the same unless I invite that type of stuff on my wall or blog.
Cheers
Jean Michel.
Holly @ 8:14 pm
I agree and would (have) done the same thing… It’s one thing to post something on your own personal status - a promotion for your own business endeavors, etc., but to go post something like that on someone else’s wall for personal gain just sucks..
James Kerrison @ 8:15 pm
You got it 100% right.
If other people are pitching their wares on your wall get rid of them. Maybe you could give them a warning first, delete their comment, if you want to be nice.
But they need to pitch their products etc on their own page, their own links, to their own people.
Izzy @ 8:16 pm
Totally rude and beyond uncool for other people to do that without even asking for your permission. It is not different from spamming, posting unsolicited content without your consent. To me, that’s the equivalent of somebody bringing a hot-dog cart to a fancy restaurant.
Now if you excuse me, I can show you how you can turn the Seattle Space Needle into the gym of your dreams for only 3 payments of $99.95. Cash only
Sorry, could not resist. See you at the FBS10
s hickman @ 8:17 pm
Definetley uncool for them to use your wall!!! Un friend them all! I do!
Dustin Martorano @ 8:18 pm
It’s one thing to use your own wall as a billboard, its another to use somebody elses wall to reach a target market….86′em Bedros!
joe haines @ 8:23 pm
YES! PRUUUUUUUNE!
You are definitely are doing the right thing B.
I been doing the same as well.
Craig Jackson @ 8:27 pm
Absolutely. Facebook can be a great way of sharing ideas but should not be about pitching your products on my page. Facebook has a great medium for pitching ads. Personal pages are not the place for it.
Mitchell Lee @ 8:27 pm
As my coach Steve Hochman says, it’s always better to “trim” LOL
You can tell em I said that
BTW - I hope you liked the teas and the book I got ya for the holidays bud
You inspire me my friend. I will be a loyal customer and student forever.
Patrick @ 8:27 pm
Hey Bedros,
Definitely doing the right thing!!…Would you keep any other ‘friends’ around who thought friendship is all about give & take?
You give, they take. Good thing is…People who follow you will see it for what it is and it could very well have the opposite effect of what they’re trying to achieve.
DERRICK RAZO @ 8:28 pm
CLIP’M BEDROS! WHAT THEY ARE DOIN IS SO NOT COOL. I APPRECIATE ALL YOUR USEFUL INFO, ITS DEF HELPIN MY BUSINESS.
T. Roehlig @ 8:32 pm
Bedros,
Most definitely, “take out the trash” is what I call it. You’re doing the right thing.
Andrew @ 8:36 pm
Totally agree Bedros! Keep to your own pages! I keep getting these stupid google business junk mails! Stop the abuse!
Mitchell, got the teas and book! Thanks a bunch…REALLY good tea.
Hochman and I got kicked out of starbucks once for ordering tea and asking for TWO tea bags…. I don’t get it.
HA! Izzy.. to funny bro
B
Mitchell Lee @ 8:53 pm
LMAO
Always a pleasure. Glad you liked the tea. I bought a few myself! My girl and I love em.
Elizabeth Pongo @ 9:11 pm
Yes! We were just talking about that this morning. It would be like walking into a restaurant and trying to sell an innocent person sitting there food. They aren’t there to buy food from a stranger off the street. They’re there to relax and see what the restaurant is all about.
You go!
Bryan Schuler @ 9:19 pm
You’re right! If I wanted to pitch something to you it would be offline and through email or a private message. I’m involved with some health supps and network marketing ventures but would never be that type of marketer that you are referring to! Cut that Garden! Hey that fitpromag link from hitech is still down for weeks just curious if you took that feature off, if so, you should remove from the options, three of my clients mentioned it…Thanks and have fun trimming the shrubs!
Keith Balbert @ 9:23 pm
whole hardly agree facebook is for social get together
I saw that, and I hate people like that, cut them and block them.
It was funny, one of the guys has a pic of him working out and it said something about being the PT that sells the most in the gym he works, and that one day he wants to own a studio, because he is the best and he deserves it.
If he is the best, why is he such a loser, spamming FB walls, that’s pathetic.
Sherri McMillan @ 9:34 pm
Yep, it’s your blog and your wall so you can do whatever you want. It’s like it’s your party you get to invite whoever you want so prune away - as long as it’s not me! HA!
John Thompson @ 9:35 pm
Cut em off bro!
John
Suzanna McGee @ 9:36 pm
Absolutely not cool to go on somebody’s wall and promote stuff there. It’s happened to me too, I erased the comment immediately. Erase and un-friend them.
Darrin @ 9:36 pm
Hell Yeah Clip’em. That is totally (as you said) Bad Mojo for them to do that.
And hey Bedros diggin’ the Flag in the background…Proud to be an American!
Keep up the good work there are still A LOT of us that need and appreciate your facebook and blogging efforts…Keep Crushing It!
-D
Roxy Dolphin @ 9:43 pm
Absolutely………Start Pruning B.
Robin Lopez @ 9:47 pm
Hi Bedros,
Well, you know you’re going to get that type of rif-raf anytime you’re putting yourself out there, right? I say, teach em’ a little lesson. Ax em’. luv luv Robin
MICHEL MAUDET @ 9:54 pm
Dear BEDROS you are the best in your speciality .People need to give you respect .You have to let the People who sabotage your work and relations to get out MICHEL
Steve Owen @ 10:01 pm
Bedros,
Im not a fan of the direction of social networking. I am seeing facebook going the route of myspace sadly
mainly a hookup site. In your case i say cut those out that are trying to sell or pitch stuff on your wall brother. ill always check this site for your stuff
Have a great night!
Chris @ 10:16 pm
How about this. I’ll give full permission to prune and cut away, as long as my pitches are left in place…
(wait for it…..wait for it….waaaaaaaait for it…)
Fair enough?
(nailed it!)
^_^
Mark @ 10:20 pm
I think you have every right to un-friend someone trying to sell you, especially if you’re not their real friend.
With that being said, thanks bedros, because i’ve definitely been shifting towards a more sales-y type talk on facebook and on my blog. I’ll save it for my website.
Mark Lopez
Kiel Hinrichs @ 10:39 pm
That’s definitely not cool. From your point of view if makes it harder to see if a personal friend has left a message and from a general point of view it’s just disrespectful. I agree with cutting everyone who has done what you mentioned.
Kester Taylor @ 11:30 pm
you and Steve give some “out of the box” ideas for marketing BUT this is different, it’s not just “out of the box” it’s just plain “out of place”. you’re doing the right thing -I say, prune their ass!
Kelly Parker @ 1:05 am
Doesn’t it also seem, I don’t know, desperate on their part? Great call last night for FBBC btw! I can’t sleep now with so many ideas running around my head… again!
Harvey Hutchinson @ 1:13 am
Hello Bedros,
Thanks for your question. I’m fairly new to facebook so don’t understand it all but I think pitching on other people’s wall is unprofessional. It gives the industry a bad name even if what they are offering is very good.
There are unprofessional people in all industries and it is good to help clean up these social networking sites.
Harvey
joseph @ 1:40 am
thats totally fair, i hate free loader’s; they should be axed as soon as Bedros.
No one hs the right to sell under your noe’s
Joe
Tad Carter @ 1:44 am
no one should advertise and pich themselves on someone elses facebook page. I agree 100%
Michael Rafferty @ 2:04 am
Yeah Bedros,
Unfriend them, de-friend them, ex-friend and maybe even decapitate them (or, at least,’Deface’ them from Facebook).
Sound like freeloaders, parasites,hangers-on and just plain BAD people.
You keep sending out the good vibes and let them rot!
Andrew K @ 2:28 am
Hi Bedros,
You hit the nail right on the head, start cutting!
Burma @ 2:35 am
I agree.
Martone Fuller @ 2:35 am
In my opinion, I think that you should unfriend people who are trying to sell people from your friends list. One because it isn’t right and two because they should have your permission to do so.
Stella @ 2:54 am
I have been a groupie of yours for quite a while now (for good reason) and I have never left a comment, until now!
Nothing gets up my nose more than some “Wannabe” trying to hitch a free ride on somebody elses thunder!!
We follow you because of your passion for our industry, your knowledge, your beliefs, and who you are!!
Bedros, get those scissors out and start cutting NOW!!
Greg @ 3:05 am
Definitely agree, that’s invasion of privacy. You have to be more strict maybe about who you friend. Maybe make sure its a fitness pro on your list.
Melanie @ 3:34 am
It could be completely innocent, someone might really think you are interested in selling their product. First I would let everyone know not to post anything on your wall that is promoting their MLM, etc. If it has absolutely nothing to do with fitness, then you know its deliberately rude. If someone posts unwanted solicitation on your wall, you can delete it and message them not to do it again or else they will be delted from your friend list. Give these people one chance not to do it. If they violate it, then I would delete them.
Liz @ 3:54 am
Definitely agree wholeheartedly!!!
Jerry Shreck @ 3:59 am
Bedros,
The same thing has been happening to me and I already started doing that. I give them a warning and remove the post-if they do it again-I remove them completely from my friend list.
Martin Bugaj @ 4:09 am
Clip clip clip! 100% right!
You prune that garden! Keep on clipping B! You have every right. It would be a disservice to your readers and followers NOT to clip that person- especially considering the incredible value that you deliver to us every single day… for free… because you are a giver. Clip away!
By the way, go here….
http://www.BuyMyStuffAndGiveMeYourMoney.com
I really think you will love it. Oh crap, should I have written that on your facebook wall?
Donna Susor @ 4:16 am
Hi Bedros,
I totally agree. People are taking advantage of your Facebook page. I have erased people off of mine when I found that they were advertising for services that I already do. Not cool!
shalom @ 4:21 am
Yes! Delete them in a hurry! You don’t want other people to stop coming by your page(s) because a few idiots think they can use your status to their advantage. But before you do…I have this great new weigh loss product….lol
Jackie @ 4:31 am
I think it’s the right thing to do. I have followed you for a year now and have come to trust you. I am glad to see you take this stand.
Hey Bedros,
If I was you would only have friends on your facebook personal profile that you have meet. One of the internet marketing guys put it well no one is on his Personal wall he would not share the pics of him at his kids at Disney with. This means he can then use Facebook for what it is meant for . Just start a Fan Page you can still share the same , still the same platform. http://tubbynerd.com/2009/02/10/its-not-you-its-me-my-goodbye-to-facebook-friends/
hope link is of some use to you.
John
Evo Life @ 4:59 am
Definatly the right move. Any of your real “friends” are learning how to build a successful business by FOLLOWING you, not taking advantage. Feel good about kulling the heard, it’s the one’s that don’t make the rest stronger that are on the chopping block.
Alex Buckingham @ 5:10 am
Hey Bedros,
I think you are absolutley right, they should not post things like that on your wall, i wouldnt want it on my wall to be fair, u should get rid of them abd at least change the settings of your wall. Gd luck with it buddy
Dana Chapman @ 5:15 am
Prune away, baby! At the core of it all, you have an intelligent following. Anyone who pitches on your page wouldn’t be respected by us Bedros fans anyhow! We see right thru it… time to cut ‘em loose.
YES, YES and YES… Facebook 2.0 buddy!
Teri Katzenberger @ 5:20 am
Hi Bedros
Great clip!
You totally have my thumbs up on “weeding out the thorns”!
Want to borrow my CLIPPERS!!
I do alot through out our community and also have my Fitness & Weight Managment Center; I get VERY turned off when I meet someone or know someone, and the next thing you know I begin getting mass-bulk emails marketing their products, business, etc….AND I DON’T EVEN KNOW THEM!
It is a complete turn off and I hit DELETE!!
Now…if they would have sent me a personal email addressed to me personally, wanting my thoughts and opinion on their venture, that would be a different story…sad for them…DELETE!
On facebook, I begin “Hiding” them, so know one can see their posts on my wall or their status! heheheheheeeee……
BRAVO my friend ~ BRAVO!
Teri
bobthehealer @ 5:51 am
you know bedros
i first say your add on my friends facebook page
i think you are great
just what the doctor ordered
if my friend had unfriended you for advertising on his facebook page i would not have seen your ad and would not have benefited from your experience
so i say let them eat cake
let them advertise
if this process of advertising was not working they would stop
but obviously this process is working
if i was you i would love the compliment that you have done a great job in getting others to know you as an expert and that you have a great following that others can make a business in picking up your crums
so relax and enjoy

I agree 100% Bedros. Peddling on someone’s Facebook page is out of bounds. I don’t go to a friend’s party and try to sell vitamins. It’s the same thing.
Definetly. Why cant people promote their own things. Why should you let them ride the coat tails of your hard work and earned trust of thousnads of professionals.. Just not cool. let them open their own facebook pages or tweeter pages.. I would cut them all A.S.A.P.
virginia @ 6:38 am
nice way to pitch your beach body website while pretenting to agree about NOT doing just that!!!
Aliza Blair @ 6:41 am
I’m with and everyone else that’s posted. Prune!
Wayne Large @ 6:44 am
Bedros sounds like to much effort to me. If people are pitching on the back of your hard work they are weak and lazy. They are also creating negativity and work for you with the effort of removing them. The way i see it is if i am looking for the best person to give me the advice im going to the man him self not the impersonators. Remember you are the shark of these waters and they are the little fish who hang of you waiting to grab a bit of your energy. Dont let them have your time, energy or effort bro.
ALL I CAN SAY IS IF YOUR PRODUCT IS THAT WEAK YOU NEED TO SELL OF SOMEONE ELSE THEN YOU SHOULD HIRE BEDROS TO HELP YOU PRODUCE A PRODUCT THATS WORTHY AND STANDS STRONG BY ITSELF.
Joe Morris @ 6:45 am
Yep, your doing the right thing. Its no help to our industry, and it pushes everyone away from your site as well, because they know that all that’s on your site is network marketing ads for everyone else. Nope get em off! See ya
Joe Morris
Dina @ 7:01 am
I say CLIP away!!! you are right …pitching on FB ruins the whole idea and concept of FB!!
Sharpin those clippers…..stay fit!
Dina
Allura @ 7:12 am
I would not unfriend them unless they are knowingly spamming. Who knows they may be your customer or become your customer or a customer to one of your friends. Some are pitching right here in this blog posting but they claim to be customers too. What do you do?
I believe if you have a fan page - that’s where you can set up some hardcore rules. But friends talking abut their biz is annoying but …. Is it harming anyone?
Sidenote: MLMs aren’t bad. Many are great products that were affiliate programs turned MLM. They are just affiliate programs on steroids. Pyramids - that’s another story
Dr. Karl Forgeron @ 7:14 am
Bedros,
Genius idea. Prune the garden and take out the weeds so the flowers can grow.
Best regards,
Dr. Karl
mike duarte @ 7:30 am
I agree!! I think it’s un-creative to pimp on someone else’s page.
I think it’s cheap to pimp, unless your TOO-Short.
Larry @ 7:34 am
Yeah that sucks. Cut them. And thanks for all that you do for us.
Allura @ 7:47 am
P.S. Bedros, I love the way you got me to open my email - click the link and listen to the DVD!!!!! eXtremely clever marketing.
I agree as well. What about on this site when people say to prune and then paste their email address and website? Is that not the same? Is it ok to do that stuff just not on facebook? Thanks I am not very clear on what falls under spam and what does not. I for example am trying to get people to my blog but I do not want to be labeled as a spammer.
ken karnack @ 8:07 am
nice move bro. personal trainers are3 a target for these leches. I use herbalife and do not post it on facebook. I have been pruning the personal trainer leaches of my page…
Mitch @ 8:07 am
I have been getting that a lot latley. I get rid of them. If you want to hock your stuff come to a class and let your use of it be evident in your performance. Otherwise do your own work
Nancy @ 8:39 am
I agree profusely, people should not leech off of other’s sites.
It is not ethical.
Craig @ 8:40 am
That’s the lowest of low…that’s why facebook has lost it’s integrity. And what’s more is you are a giving person to all of us personal trainers, kind of “don’t bite the hand that feeds you” type of thing.Thank you Bedros for sharing so much. Smart Move…
Monty Moran @ 8:43 am
Completely agree. Pitch on your own wall. If peeps like you and your service or product they will share it on their own wall.
Start pruning buddy!
RICHARD RUIZ @ 9:13 am
I agree, just freeze them out. What they’re trying to do is simple, it’s called “Riding Coat tails.”
Michelle @ 9:24 am

Steve Neal @ 10:48 am
Totally agree with you man!! Thats a well cheap shot!! One of the many things i like about is your straight, to the point and what a polite and professional way of “trimming your facebook” ha ha!!
People that do that, just goes to show what kind of business people they are!!! Just do it and give no warning next time!!
You’re the man!! Thank you for all your top top tips!! woop dont let this think we’re all the same!!
Best of respect and all the best for 2010!!!

Prune away man!
Blake @ 12:44 pm
I agree with you Bedros, I don’t believe that company’s should be doing that, most of the time we don’t want it, and if they started that on my site I would slam their’s hard, and bad mouth it to everyone I know, and tell them what you told us. Especially doing that without my permission, I would more so be upset by that. But that’s me, might not be the best way, but when someone gets on my bad side, I give them 10x what they gave me.
john @ 1:14 pm
I agree with you.
Pam Rumi @ 2:06 pm
Hey Bedros,
I totally agree with you. My #1 reason I decided to stop looking at my Facebook account was always being pitched. Most people on Facebook forget that they need to build rapport with a person first before they can ever market anything to them. Some the people in MLM companies are clueless about how to add value first before they ever start to pitch.
If you really want to help them I would suggest you recommend they read The Go-Giver.
Great Job!
Chris Meredith @ 2:47 pm
No doubt that we all agree with you. I’m with Bedros”!
Brandon Roggow @ 4:43 pm
Bedros,
Clip them for sure!! That is very uncool and they have to go.
Thanks,
Brandon
Chris Lutz @ 4:47 pm
Hmm, I don’t like MLM things either, but it kind of comes with the territory. You might just be able to plainly post for them not to do it somewhere. Something like a “No Soliciting” sign on an office building. I would try that first then cut them off if they do it. It’s your page, and your call.
Hey Bedros, can you keep us posted of when you are in D.C.? I’d love to come and see. Thanks.

I have a fantastic ebook on how to prune gardens, only 29.95
Ryan @ 8:38 pm
yes prune I agree. MLM has it’s place, but not on FB. The last thing we want fb to turn into is spam
George @ 9:30 pm
B,

This has actually happened to me too… and this is what I do…
I say be understanding and nice about it at first… they probably don’t know any better, and are just trying their best to make a buck.
You don’t have to get rid of them unless they are repeat offenders.
Choose the middle ground: simply delete their post from your wall.
If they repeat the offense again, THEN you should delete them as a friend.
Give them “two or three strikes and you’re out”
George

John @ 11:13 pm
Hey Bedros, Facebook is for sharing information with friends, I like people to know I am a new PT which for me, isn’t pitching, it’s just letting people know. I can share some interesting stuff based on my experience of losing 65 pounds and I have already signed up one of my face book friends as a client based on my blog posts. So you can share info and still get referrals, if you do things the right way and your attitude is a giving one, rather than a taking one

You are definitely doing the right thing here! People are lame and people have no ethics.
Irma @ 7:44 pm
Hey Bedros!
You can control the circle of friends one hangs out with, so Facebook should be the same way. I understand a lot of people are looking for success on their end, BUT they have to work at it on their end. Don’t suck on other people’s TIT, you know what I mean…
I think it’s a tacky, and people that do that are only looking for a quick rich gain with out the work. Friends look out for one another so, cut ‘em bro! Look forward in seeing you on the 30th! We need to have a beer and catch up.
How do you say chair in Spanish?

I agree, they are leeches and pulling blood from all of your hard work.
Ive actually started “pruning” my Facebook friend list too. I’ve been noticing local Personal Trainers sending me friend requests and becoming my “fan” on my fanpage.
Not only have I been getting the spammers like you talk about in your video, but I am also getting PT”lurkers.”
Now my problem is this; are these other local Trainers truly being supportive by becoming a “fan?” Or are they just snooping around, reading my articles, etc to try to capitalize on my ideas.
Just a thought.
I agree with you, start clipping!!
Sounds like a good idea. Please don’t prune me.
Dale Buchanan @ 9:07 am
