How to Overcome Fear and Doubt and Get Anything You Want In Life
Fear and doubt are a bitch.
If there were ever two elements in life that would guarantee that your life would suck ass, that you’d experience zero success in anything you do, and that you’d be miserable in every way - it’s the feelings of fear and doubt.
Most people experience fear and doubt throughout life.
It’s normal…
It’s part of life…
And I bet head shrinks would even say SOME small levels of fear and doubt are healthy.
But if you ask me what the top two reasons are that destroy dreams, kill ambition, and stop most people from getting what they want in life, I’d tell you it’s FEAR and DOUBT.
THE ULTIMATE DREAM KILLERS
And even a little is too much.
Here’s what happen…
A dude see’s a girl he likes. She might like him, too. But his fears and doubts override his logic and desire to get what he wants and he never asks her out. Disappointing himself and her.

You have an idea for a business. It sounds like a winner. But when it’s time for the rubber to meet the road you start thinking up all the POTENTIAL problems your business might experience and the risk that comes along and so you scrap the idea. Leaving yourself and starving market place disappointed.
Variations of the two examples above happen hundreds of times each day.
- I want to start this awesome business – but I don’t have enough money.
Bullshit! You’re afraid of failure. Afraid of hard work. Afraid of going broke.
- Just as soon as I get a better job or get that raise I’m going to start saving up for a home.
Bullshit! You don’t think you deserve a home. You’re afraid that you might lose it. Cause if you REALLY wanted that home you’ll find a way to make that increase in pay happen TODAY.
- I’m going to start exercising and watching my diet as soon as I get my business in order, or get over this cold, or when January rolls around.
Bullshit! You’re afraid of change. You doubt you can take and keep it off. You don’t think you REALLY deserve it.
Fear and doubt are the two most limiting emotions EVER. And for some reason folks live in this super heightened state of fear and doubt NOW more than ever.
Let me draw you a word picture of what happens when you let fear and doubt creep into your head.
It all starts with the thoughts that occupy your mind.
First the negative self-talk begins (sometimes without you ever consciously knowing it).
The negative self-talk leads to limiting actions and behaviors.
The limiting actions and behaviors lead to self-sabotage and a sorry “attempt” at doing something good for yourself.
And nothing feels better than saying “I tired but it didn’t work out” when really you had programmed yourself to fail along.
But self-pity feels good. It makes it “not your fault”. And so the cycle continues.
Like I said…
…FEAR AND DOUBT ARE A BITCH and they create a vicious cycle of failures in life.
But there is a way to overcome fear and doubt and get anything you want in life.
First you gotta know where both of these crappy feelings come from.
FEAR, when you distil it down to its core is UNCERTAINTY.
DOUBT, at it’s core level is FEAR OF FAILURE.
Take a look at the state the world is in today. The global wars, the economy and the scare of sickness (like swine flu) have people living in UNCERTAINTY and in FEAR OF FAILURE.
But like I said there is a way to overcome this bitch and get anything you want in life.
Check it out… it’s easier than you think.
How to get over the fear of failure and uncertainty.
Are you ready for this?….
Here it comes…
Fail more often! And when you do get up, look fear in the eye and try it again.
I don’t know crap about baseball. But I do know that Babe Ruth struck out WAY more times than he hit home runs. But everyone knows him as the homerun king.
Everyone knows Trump as the successful real estate mogul. But if you read his book you’ll see he fail several times – BIG – and at one point had a NEGATIVE net worth of $900 MILLION with dozens of bankers on his ass.
What if Trump stopped there?
What if Babe Ruth dropped the bat and walked off after his first strike out?
Fear and doubt are the two most TOXIC things that can occupy your mind.
Here’s an exercise to help you overcome uncertainty and fear of failure – which is basically what fear and doubt really are.
Let’s say that you’re trying to do something big for yourself.
For example, lets say you’re trying to open up a personal training studio. The idea of taking on so much risk is scary.
Throughout the months fear and doubt might creep into your head several times. And when they do you gotta take immediate action to squash’em.
Here’s what you do… Find something that brings you some level of fear or doubt when you think about it. BUT it has to be something that you can overcome RIGHT NOW and not months from now when a project is done.
Example: skydiving might freak you out. GOOD…look at it in the eyes and go out, pay the $400 bucks and do it THIS WEEKEND.
There are a lot of things you can do RIGHT NOW to overcome fear and self doubt. Even if you gotta walk naked across a major intersection –do it. (but don’t call me if get arrested.)
My point is this. The minute fear and doubt enters your mind about anything, go out and do SOMETHING that puts you out of your comfort zone. Even if it’s not related to your big project you’ll instantly get the courage to get and stay on track and have anything you want in life.
Plus your life will be more adventuress.
I used to be scared shitless about getting up on stage at a live event. Now I can’t wait!
You should of seen the things I did to overcome the limiting fears and doubt I had back then. (I probably should have been arrested a bunch of times).
What are you gonna do about YOUR fears and doubts?

I deal with fear and doubt all of the time, but I am learning to face it head on. In the past couple of weeks I have felt more uncomfortable than I have my entire life (thanks to Steve and Bedros), but I know it is making me stronger and I have learned so much already. You have to face fear and doubt head on and dominate it.
Bedros thanks for the daily positive reinforcements. Everyday I get up and read your postings I feel I am ready to go out there and conquer my day!
Great Post Bedros! I’ve been using Steve’s methods since FIS and they’ve been working wonders. I’ll start doing more things to put me out of my comfort zone and start gaining courage in my life and in my business.
It may take me a little while to reach your “Courageous Lion” status, but I’m sure as hell gonna get there!
Thanks for always delivering the BEST content!

KILLER post B…
Fear and Doubts are either paralyzing or a kick up the ass to get you moving. As you mentioned Fear and Doubt are emotions that stem from Uncertainty… “What if it doesn’t work” and you are spot on when we then rationalize and tell ourselves it’s not our fault… the weather was bad… the owner was rude… etc. we can all come up with thousands of reasons which then make us feel a little better about ourselves by taking the responsibility and giving it to someone or something else… means we don’t have to face it
Everyone will always have fears and doubts at some point and as mentioned the trick is to make them your botch and use them to move you to action…
How have I done this previously? Well I went skydiving from 14000 feet for 1…. and something more close to home I came to a foreign place with no friends, no family and no guarantees.. just the love that I had for one special person (without no guarantees of getting it back…she hadnt even said it yet) and a vision to help as many people as I can through my lifes experiences and practices in this grand part of the world.
Being 12000 miles from home means you have a whole different set of fears and doubts and the character it builds by overcoming them and using them for the greater good is unbelievable rewarding.. and those lessons I pass on to all my clients, colleagues, friends and family. (which is the real gift)
Remember that being the example enables you to then share such experiences with others in times of their need… which is what we see each day from one Mr. keuilian
Thanks for an awesome post B

Great Post Bedros. A mentor told me once..FAil and Fail fast…so that you may come back out with that learning experience. In Martial Arts, getting popped in the face is the best experience to know to NEVER put your hands down. SOmetimes we all need to popped in the face.
But it doesn’t matter if you WONT STEP IN THE RING…

Great Post bedros,
after reading it, I got on the phone and called 5 hair dressers and set up appointments for them to be my referral generators in exchange for bootcamp. I don’t know why I’ve been so nervous about doing this. Guess Fear of rejection even tho I’m offering something really great.
I’m going to think of this post every time I have to do something uncomfortable and try not to care what people think about me.
Very insightful Bedros! You’re spot on… fear and doubt limit us in so many ways and I’ve felt the effects of them for a long time in my life. It was these beliefs that kept me from living up to my highest potential.
It starts with changing your beliefs… mistakes aren’t bad… failure isn’t bad… they are just part of the learning process. SO like you said “fail more often.” Think of how many times Edison failed before he finally found the right filament for the lightbulb.
Also, we all need to realize that we ARE good enough, and must find the same respect for ourselves that we would give to others. If you doubt your own worthiness… then you’ll always give up, quit, and continue to experience lack in your life. We must learn to see our own innate value.
Rock on Bedros!
Brandon
Aja,
you are right my friend… fear of rejection… it is probably the 1 Fear that has plagued me throughout my life and has therefore needed a good ole fashioned ass kickin when it does show up. Isn’t it funny how we make up stories in our heads about what might happen if you do call? when in reality we have no idea what will happen… we can direct it and follow a script and aim for it to work out all rosy… and then the spanner in the works comes in to stuff you up…
the great thing is that word will spread in your community to those people that have said no and “rejected” you and then they;; be begging to get on board..
the thing to remember to is that very often they are not rejecting you… almost always it has to do with them
keep us updated Aja on how it’s all going for you
cheers

Thanks for the post.I’ve had trouble with this for a long time and need to get over it in order to be successful.
And I also agree with Brandon that we have to build our self worth in order to achieve our goals.
Thanks again
If you’re not uncomfortable you’re not growing.
Thanks for the pep talk, Bedros.
Have a great day.

excellent post, bedros. and it is so true….within the last week, i have taken the biggest step of faith in my life! but when the fear/doubt monster creeps in, i keep telling myself: massive action. just do it. believe. try. i can do it. and it works! thanks for the post!

Thanks for the reminder to grab life by the huevos Bedros! I just came back from your Orlando meeting and it has inspired so much. Gonna stop the fear and doubt today!
Bedros,
You are dead on! I think this is also the reason why many overweight people don’t lose weight, they self sabotage themselves and have many underlying reasons/fears/doubts to why they don’t deserve or are able to lose weight and be healthy.
I have found this to be one of the toughest yet rewarding parts of my career!
Dustin
PS Bedros, cant wait to see you in orlando soon!

Bedros,
Excellent post with impeccable timing. My business partner and I have been gunning for our biggest fears since FIS. Some days we lose, some days we have small victories, but most importantly we keep coming back for more.
We have trouble getting up the nerve to talk to people and get them into boot camp, but when we begin to doubt we just re-read Steve’s post on “Child Abuse” and remember that we are literally saving lives.
Thank you for the direction and boot-to-ass motivation.

So true Bedros’! You pumped me and I’ve been getting outside my comfort zone all day today since reading your post.
It’s crazy to think how much we get down about the 5% or so people who are unhappy with our services & we forget about the 95% who are happy as clams with us. FEAR AND DOUBT are success killers, thanks for sharing this with us…one of my favorite posts in a while.
Great post B! F%ck Fear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bedros,
I’m about to graduate college with my exercise science degree and have been going to interviews like crazy the last few weeks. I can’t tell you how much your advice has helped me KILL every single one. In my last interview for a fitness club I had one minute sell the guy a stapler as part of the interview. Yeah thats right, a STAPLER!!! Because of your tips I was able to do it and do it with confidence. I actually had the interviewer at the end of the sale ask me if he could buy them in bulk. It was THAT GOOD!! Thanks for all of your post. They’ve been a blessing and I hope you continue to do more. This one today was just what I needed!!! Thanks again!!
Dr. Debra @ 6:31 pm
I agree with the rest, this was a great post! You are sooo right. How many I wish, if only, what if’s do we want in our lives. No more for me! I will act on my dreams, goals and desires and continue taking action until they are met and I make new goals and take new actions. I’m going to contact people whom I want to be mentored by until someone says, “Yes.”
Thank you for the inspirational kick in the butt.
Steve Auxier @ 12:37 pm
Great post! You are really inspiring!! When is your next big business summit coming/where?
Doug Seamans @ 2:09 pm
Awesome post! Funny thing I’m reading this today…I put in my two week notice at my part-time job earlier today!!! I had recently dropped down to only two days per week and used the new free time to focus on my business and it payed off better than I had imagined so now I’m taking the leap and I will only be working for one person…myself.
I like that someone else is getting on the hair salon client generator idea, that’s the next thing I’ll be hitting up in the next few days too. I’ve already primed a few salons by asking my clients to talk to their hairdresser for me. I’ve got a lot more things that I will be working that I’ve wanted to get done and now I’m reminded to just do it, get it done already! Thanks!

Hey Bedros,
I love the way you write, it is so true and real.
From the books I’m reading lately, certainly fear is nothing to be ‘feared’ but embraced.
I’m learning every day to care less and less whether people like me or not, fear of rejection I think is quite big in our society.
It’s a journey, but we will get there day by day if we read and listen to the right things
Thanks for the encouraging post

Hey Bedros
Killer post buddy!
This is awesome advice, i tryed this technique only a couple of days ago. I was presenting to a group of trainers that i had not met before. After introducing myself i told them i wanted to create some energy in the room, so got them to stand up and repeate what i did. I pulled my scariest war face and screamed as loud as i could.
These guys looked at me as if i should be locked up, so i got them to do the same thing a couple of times, these guys could hardly do it the third time for laughing so much.
It was such a random thing to do but got everyone laughing and focused on what i had to say. It went down a storm just completey doing something out there and made the rest of the presentation an absolute breeze!!
Thanks for the advice buddy!

The way I figure it, when I’m feeling too cushy and comfortable, that’s when I get bored and ansy and need to stir things up. In other words, I make change happen and that starts a change reaction. You really won’t have the time to be worried. Thanks for all you have done for me, Bedros. I have taken action on alot of your ideas and that is hugely empowering.

Hi Bedros
While I applaud you for telling folks to just “do it”, it is very limited in it’s approach to how success or wealth is really created. You did hit the nail on the head when you refer to limiting beliefs and if I may I’d like to add more to what you’ve already said. Success starts with deciding you are no longer willing to live with the circumstances you have in front of you. You have to make a conscious decision to take the necessary action to identify what’s holding you back and how to turn it around so that you can achieve the goals and dreams you’ve always wanted. You have to discover and release your full purpose, potential and destiny in life. How do you do that? Well, you can become wealthy or successful by training your mind to achieve the objective and that to achieve wealth; you must want wealth and condition your mind to attract wealth. You must have a proven belief that YOU can become wealthy and successful. And so… here’s what I know for absolute certainty is that you and I hold beliefs about money, wealth and achievement. And what you believe dictates the type of relationship you have with success—and the wealth that your success produces. That your inner world creates your outer results. A wealthy mind allows you to create the outer results that you want by transforming the inner world that you bring to it. Put simply, if your goal is to become wealthy, make more money at work or in your business but you have a belief system says that you don’t deserve to have money; you’ll unconsciously find ways to ensure that you don’t end up with a lot of money. You mention that in your post along with how fear and doubt are what guide most people’s decisions. It did mine, it’s what I unconsciously believed, that I didn’t deserve to have money and success and as a result I kept attracting people and situations that helped me sabotage, repeatedly destroy the success I had achieved. I’m betting it’s the same for most of your readers. And… you need to know that the same type of belief systems comes into play no matter what your goal—whether it’s becoming a better parent or loving partner, getting in the best shape of your life or helping your clients to, or learning how to play the guitar. If you believe that you don’t deserve success in these areas it’s not going to happen for you. So, for me, that one sentence written held the secret. Because here’s what I realized; achieving what you want is easy once you have a system and you align your life purpose, vision and goals with a mind programmed for success. Long story short… I found a few mentors who could teach me a proven scientific formula based on neurosciences, quantum physics and accelerated learning technologies that offered a process or a profound technology for change… a way to to recondition or program my mind for success and also a process for completely eliminating limiting beliefs and replace them with empowering one’s and together it’s a system, a process that anyone can follow to achieve success in any area of their lives because it combines the most advanced system for discovering your true life purpose, powerful goal setting along with a 7 step accelerated neuroreconditioning process that creates a mindset that is unstoppable. So, the short answer is… work on removing your limiting beliefs and replace them with empowering ones!

Awesome Bedros. It’s just like the Bible says over and over 365 times (there’s a hint that God’s trying to get across to us for everyday of the year) “fear not”, “be not afraid”, “let not your heart be troubled”.
I totally agree with what you mentioned at the top that no amount of fear or doubt is good. Don’t buy into what some will say that a little fear is good…it’s one of if not THE WORST thing you can do.
Thanks for sharing Bedros.

Thanks Bedros. I’m going to face my fear - fear of conflict - today during a potentially difficult phone call with a current client and - fear of being rejected - by handing out gift certificates outside a coffee house in my studio neighborhood this Saturday.

Hey,Bedros.
You hit the nail right on the head. I have been dealing with social anxiety issues for a long time. I just got done working with a therapist using ACT therapy and feel like I am making progress. My ultimate goal is to open my own training studio, which is kinda tough if you are afraid of people. Thanks for the info. It is very inspirational.
Bedros, this stuff is powerful! Just going through all your self improvement blogs today and wow it’s so true. Thanks for helping us all out. When I first started boot camps I was scared it wouldn’t work, biggest thing that helped me was a book called Feel the fear, and do it anyway. Big Chris had me read it and between that and you’re help it’s been awesome! Thank you
Thanks Sako! Keep killing it dude!

Nice!
I agree 100%.
It’s hard to face our fears but I think if you can get in the habit of it you’ll notice that life gets a lot more rewarding.
Start small, be consistent and you’ll be the controller of your fears versus living life the other way around.
Crush those fears and get the rewards!

Fear and Doubt should be jailed and the key thrown away!!!
Be sensible about tackling new ventures and remember uncertail opportunities are the ones that may turn up roses if you do it right. Use your brains to analyse your new venture and if you can visualise your success, then if you are not retarded, you have the ability to roll it out and realise your dream.
You can’t do it if Doubt and Fear are your business partners. If you are in business with Doudt and Fear, get rid of them NOW.

Hi Bedros,
Great post, this is what I’ve been helping my clients with fear of stress of work, financial, relationship etc. As well as presenting to corporate businesses around my city. The truth is that you have to kick fear and doubt out and just do it, and you’ll get your reward.
