How to Crush Your Competitors

Djillianid you hear the news?

My friend, Fitness Business Summit 07 presenter and top celebrity trainer from TV’s “The Biggest Loser”, Jillian Michaels just announced that she’ll be launching a Nintendo Wii workout game.

What does this mean?

Well, this is bad news for other celebrity trainers because Jillian is positioning herself with today’s younger gaming population who will later become buyers and fans of her future books and DVDs because they know, like and trust her.

In a nutshell Jillian is positioning to crush her competitors and win big time market share.

And good for her for thinking out of the box.

In fact, my friend and mentorship client Saman Bakhtiar just wrapped up a huge “Chino’s Biggest Loser” finale party.

Back in February of 2007 Saman was sitting the audience when Jillian took the stage and shared how the biggest loser TV show put her on the map.

Fast forward to January of 2008 and that’s when Saman decided to do his own Chino’s biggest loser content. But the trick is he thought big – really big and went to the city and asked them to get involved.

And you know what? They did.

After six months of monthly weigh in, body fat tests, email communications, and lot of support and involvement from the city and the local paper the grand finale went off this past Thursday and was a total success.

In fact it was so big that Saman had to move the whole thing out of his studio and into the parking lot complete with a giant tent, food, vendors, music, car show (of course I had to represent with the 66 Shelby Cobra) and even the mayor of the city was on hand to award the prizes.

Bottom line… Saman has become a local celebrity. He’s crushing his competitors and in the last 12 months three local studios have closed their doors because they just couldn’t compete with Saman new approach to business.

At the finale party I asked Saman what he had in store for next year. Then without skipping a beat we both said it at the same time… Biggest Loser Chino AND Chino Hills! Guess we’ll have to see which is the fitter city.

The funny thing is that the finale was this past Thursday. I went to workout at Saman’s facility the next morning and I was surprised to see that the building was bursting at the seams with new clients – on a FRIDAY no less!

I guess thinking outside of the box works.

I’m sure Jillian Michaels had to take the first step and approach Nintendo with her “outside of the box” idea. But now she’ll be rewarded for taking action with her own Wii game. And you know what? She’s not stopping there. Rumor is she’s coming out with her own clothing line.

Talk about owning the competition, eh?

Success means a lot of things to a lot of people. But we can all agree that financial freedom – the ability and security to do what you want, when you want, with who you want is at the top of the list.

And all you have to do is think outside of the box, take massive action and success will be yours.

I like the story, but if Julian did not have her t.v. show she would not be dealing with Wii. I have tried to do a big “first of its kind” fitness event in my community and received very little support (I attempted to work with corporations, organizations, gyms, schools, etc.).

The larger gyms and organizations get all of the money and support while the small business owners like me get ignored.
I spent almost a year working on promotions, contacts, etc.,
and found that atleast in my neck of the woods money is what gets you noticed. Any suggestions? Would Julian be willing to make an appearance at my event? That would help me big time with getting the community backing my fitness event which would have a positive effect on families.
