You Just Got Called Out AGAIN.

Are you a fitness entrepreneur or a “fitness WANTrepreneur”?

Again, don’t get mad at me. That’s not my word.

That’s from internet marketing guru Gary Vaynerchuk.

Have you watched that video yet? If not, watch it. If you have, watch it again.

Who is this guy?

He’s the guy who builds $50 million dollar businesses.

And that’s on one of his average days.

I have a lot of respect for Mr. Vaynerchuk. In fact, I watch the guy like a hawk to make sure my own businesses are staying on the absolute cutting edge of social media marketing. Like me, he’s a living example of the Immigrant Edge.

And now that he’s talking to your industry specifically, you’d better listen carefully.

Now to be fair, I think he’s slightly overstating how bad the situation really is.

I know a lot of you are working your asses off, and some of you are even dedicating your time properly to your critical few tasks…

But I want to make sure that ALL of us are doing the right work in the right way so that we can dominate this industry and help the most people.

So let’s look at how you can be an even better entrepreneur:

Delegate the Trivial, Not the Difficult

This is the trap I see a lot of newer entrepreneurs fall into:

They’ve hustled their way to the point where they can afford (and need) to hire their first employee, probably some kind of personal assistant.piatto di sassi

And they start delegating.

Or at least, they think they start delegating.

In reality, all they’re doing is pushing away the work that they don’t personally think is fun or comfortable.

The problem is that this behavior is the exact opposite of delegating. This is fake delegating.

When you delegate for real, you maximize the time you spend on the most critical tasks in your business so that YOU – the leader, the mastermind – can put 100% of your passion and vision into those tasks and grow your business to a place that most people can’t reach.

Doing what everyone else can’t or won’t do is what makes a leader a leader.

Anything in your business that someone else CAN do is something some else SHOULD do. That’s how you sort through your trivial tasks and only work on the critical tasks.

As a fitness entrepreneur, I can already tell you what your critical tasks will be: growing your business, marketing and selling.

Adversity is the Only Way to Grow

Now let’s not lose sight of the real issue here: most people who fake delegate do so out of fear… fear that they won’t rise to the challenge of the tasks they don’t know how to do yet.

Well guess what?

Sometimes you won’t.

Sometimes you’ll fail.

And if you want to succeed, you just have to just keep pushing anyway.

If you’ve spent most of your life perfecting your body in the gym, odds are you haven’t been exposed to the skills and the tools that it takes to build a successful business. So really, no one can blame you for not instantly having what it takes to build your business.

But you should absolutely blame yourself for not learning those skills AFTER you decide to become an entrepreneur.

Look, dude, do you really think it was easy for me to start writing my own copy?

gucMe, the guy who didn’t learn English until he was 6 years old?

Me, the guy who barely scraped through the public education system?

It wasn’t easy! It was incredibly hard!

But here’s the funny thing…

Now that I’ve put in the work and pushed through the adversity, I now write better copy than a lot of people who are native English speakers.

Same situation with sales presentations. Listen, I used to be the most socially awkward guy on the planet (and in my head I still think I am sometimes) and you can probably imagine what that meant for my early sales presentations.

I forced myself through hundreds of horribly awkward, slow, non-closing discussions with prospects before I learned how to do it right.

Now? Well… let’s just say I know how to close clients.

And I’m just not saying all this to pump myself up – I’m saying that to prove a very important point:

Great skill, in any area of life or business, comes ONLY from pushing through the biggest challenges.

This is why a shocking number of hugely talented people never go anywhere in life – they can’t or won’t recognize their challenges as growth opportunities and push through to the other side of them.

So when it comes time for you to delegate, keep this in mind: every time you pass off a big challenge to someone else, you’re robbing yourself of an opportunity to grow.

In fact, you might even be training your own competition.

And hey, one more thing about delegating…

Do Less, Care More

There’s another potential trap that comes with delegation, and this one is a lot trickier – it requires your constant vigilance.

Delegating a task is not an excuse to stop caring about it.

Any time something goes wrong in your business, take it personally. It doesn’t matter who messed up, YOU need to do whatever it takes to fix the problem.

Because at the end of the day, it’s your name that’s on the line.Man with arms wide open on the beach at sunrise

You can’t have all the money and the glory and the freedom of owning a successful business if you aren’t willing to deal with the problems as well. It just doesn’t work that way.

But man, trust me, it’s worth it when you rise to the challenge.

Before I sign off, I want to repeat one more quote from Gary Vaynerchuk… this is something to keep in mind whenever the going gets rough:

“Sales are oxygen.”

In other words, more sales will solve any problem you ever encounter in your business. If you want to secure the future of your business, make it a top priority to close 8-9 out of every 10 clients.

Committed to your success,

Bedros
