How to Find Your Purpose

You’ve got to work from purpose and passion. People go how do I find my purpose? Your purpose is not lost, you can’t find it. Your purpose is something you develop.

You’ve got to work from purpose, and here’s what I mean. Don’t chase the money. When I chased the money, I was having anxiety attacks, I was so stressed out that I couldn’t sleep at night so I was taking NyQuil and Vicodin to fall asleep, and I would wake up and take Adderall and pre-workout just to get rid of that fuzzy headedness from all the drugs that I took the night before. It was not a good life, my marriage was falling apart, I was overweight, tired, fatigued, had given up in a depression. I was talking to JP about it, I was looking at dark, deep depression, I didn’t even realize it.

You’ve got to work from purpose and passion. People go how do I find my purpose? Your purpose is not lost, you can’t find it. Your purpose is something you develop. Whatever you’re doing to make money, keep doing more of it.

I started off as a personal trainer. I just wanted to help one person lose weight because I lost weight as a young man working with a personal trainer and it changed my life. That one client turned into a handful of clients. Those handfuls of clients, one of my clients became my mentor and encouraged me to open up my first personal training studio. That personal training studio turned to five. I sold the five, became a coaching consultant to the personal training industry. The economy crashed, I started Fit Body Boot Camp. I still do personal training, it’s just at a different level. Like I developed where I am today. This is my purpose. I’m still personal training, I’m just training you in a different way, in your business, in your mindset, and your ability to take action, to lead.

And so, I remember this very vividly. A few years back we got this dog, her name is Cookie, she’s about 90 pounds but she thinks she’s a little lapdog like most big dogs do. She’s part mastiff and part german shepherd, and so we got this lady to come to teach us how to handle a giant German shepherd/mastiff. And she goes, “Look, the number one thing I’m gonna tell you about this dog is it needs a purpose. So you have to make sure you get out and play with it every morning at the same time.”

“All right, got it, no problem. Like what happens if we don’t?”

She said, “In the absence of purpose, your dog will get depressed, and when your dog gets depressed, they go stir crazy and they start digging holes everywhere in your back yard. They give themselves a purpose, you understand that? They start digging holes everywhere.” Like, oh shit, and I realized at that moment that I’m just like a German shepherd, you’re just like a German shepherd, in the absence of purpose, you start digging holes in your life.

Pornography, sex addiction, alcoholism, drug abuse, infidelity, I don’t know what hole you’re digging in your life, but I can tell you this, in the absence of purpose, and service, you are digging holes in your life, and the number one thing you can do right now is to buckle down, become an effective leader, own everything, develop your purpose and reach your fullest potential.
